I DON'T think I have PCOS

I have been ttc no. 2 for 19 months. I have just been told I may have PCOS based on finding cysts in both ovaries. However...... I don't feel I have any other symptoms. I am not overweight, do not have acne or excess body hair etc etc. Most importantly, I have regular periods and have been charting and believe my temperatures and OPKs show I am ovulating.
What is more I feel my doctor was dismissive of the information I gave regarding my cycle. I told her I believe I ovulate around day 21 and yet she has told me I have to get follow up tests done on day 21. Surely that is too early in my cycle? This leads me to think that her belief that my follicles are not developed is based on a belief that I will ovulate on day 14. I saw her on day 12 of my cycle which is still early on for me.
Any thoughts or advice? Thanks.
P.S. it took 6 months to conceive DC1

At 19 months of ttc without success there is likely to be a problem with either one or both of you equally. Has your man been tested to date, it is little point in solely testing your good self without any tests for him being done.

What you need primarily is a diagnosis first and foremost.

PCOS is actually a very individualistic disorder and affects each woman with it very differently. What is a problem for one woman with PCOS is not for another, that is how individualistic it is. The commonality is the cystic follicles on the ovaries, it is possible to have the cystic follicles alone.

Was not too surprised to see that your chart was dismissed - docs tend to be dismissive of such charts primarily because they are so unreliable.

You need a day 2 test done as well as the day 21; the day 2 will tell you what your LH level is like compared to that of your FSH. If these two hormones are out of sync then ovulation is affected. The day 21 is a standard test; if you actually had this done a day or two later that this it would not make any difference to the overall result.

At this stage as well you really do need to see a gynae consultant as a couple and let this person lead treatment options.

Having polycystic ovaries is different to having the full syndrome. You can still ovulate with the condition, I think I do about 50% of the time. Also it seems it can develop at any time.

I would be wary of GPs - my recent experience has highlighted to me the lack of knowledge aroubd fertility issues and women's health. A private 180 quid consultation told me more in 1hr than the last year dealing with various GPs and tests.

If your periods are longer than 28 days then yes you do need a later day 21 test. E.g my cycles vary from 28-35 so I had test on day 25 and it seemed to work.

Thanks for your replies. My husband has been tested and all good there.
It was actually an ob/gyn that I saw. I guess that's why I'm disappointed that she didn't take into account my longer cycle. She also never said anything about a day 2 test.
My cycle is usually around 31 days, though sometimes a bit longer. A couple of months ago it was 35. If I went on day 24 or 25 do you think that would be okay? Or should I go a week after I think I've ovulated (based on temps and opk). I know I've been told I'm not ovulating but you know....
One thing that I'm a bit confused about is the cysts. Would all women show a collections of eggs at a certain point in their cycle or have these built up over the months?

I have PCOS and went for tests. Scan revealed cysts on both ovaries so I then got sent for blood tests. Had day 2 and day 21 tests. I went back to the doctors for results and was told after my day 21 test that I had not ovulated that month. However in the mean time my period was late and I had POS and got a positive result. DD is now 11! Doctor just said "ah well the tests are only an indication". My cycle at that stage was about 35 to 40 days - though sometimes just skipped a cycle completely. So I guess I ovulated after the day 21 test.

The consultant said to me its where they are - grouped around surface indicating that there has been failed ovulation at some point.
