Below average egg reserves

I have just gone for my first appointment at a clinic to start I.V.F and had to have another scan. I got told all was fine but my egg reserves are below average. I questioned this as i have had lots of tests along the way and no-one had told me before my reserve was low, i always got told everything was normal. She said it was fine as this naturally happens and as i'm 35 your egg reserve can be lower than normal as its my age.
Rather than feeling excited about having this treatment done i now feel abit upset that (1 )no-one had ever mentioned it before and (2) does that mean my chances of a baby are very low even with ivf :(

Hi blondebaby. So you've had fsh, lh and maybe amh blood tests done, I imagine? And what did they tell you about these?

And now the sonographer at your ivf clinic has told you that you have a low antral follicle count? S/he tell you how many follicles? Your follicle count changes from month to month, and so you shouldn't take it as the definitive test. They all need to be looked at in the round, and as I say, some will change month to month. So you really mustn't let it get you down. No one mentioned it before because it's another measure of the same thing, and this is the first time you've had it looked at. Your chances of a baby with ivf are significantly higher than trying naturally, and it sounds like you're in good reproductive health generally if your other tests came back fine. Is your infertility unexplained? ivf really is a fantastic treatment. You could use the lister clinic fertility calculator to give you some indication of your chances of success, but you should also ask your consultant if you want an assessment. But this one single snapshot of your ovaries on one particulate day in one particular month does not change your chances.

What clinic are you at? You could take the argc advice about growing the number of eggs you make during stims. Eat at least 60 grams of protein, a lot of water and milk, and be in good health and well rested.

Hi Whiteshoes, yes we have unexplainned. All my blood tests. And investigations so far have been normal. The last time I had a pelvic scan this was normal too, it was only when I had it redone at this clinic I got told below average egg reserve. Thankyou for your comment, it has made me feel a lot better. I have been advised that when I start the injections I have to up my intake of protein and eggs so I'll prob start soon. Xx
