Is IVF less of a success after a Caesarean section??

I am pregnant with my first baby after many failed IVF attempts and because of complications with the pregnancy we have been advised that an Elective CS may be a possibilty. We would like to try for more children and one of my main concerns is can having a c section effect the success of IVF should we try for a 2nd/3rd baby? Can the scar on the uterus prevent an embryo from attaching, and are you more likely to suffer a miscarriage if you have had a C section? If i was lucky enough to be pregnant with twins the 2nd time around would my uterus be too delicate to support 2 babies after the surgey? And does anyone know how long you need to wait after a C Section before trying again for a baby? (I am not getting any younger and we would love 2 or 3 children)

If anyone has been in this situation or knows anything on this subject i would love to hear from you. Really do not want to make it harder than it already is to get pregnant with IVF on our journey for baby number 2, but also want to deliver our baby in the safest way possible and if we need to have a CS then ultimately we will do whatever is in the best interest for our baby.

Any advice would be very helpful

I can't comment on the IVF side but a planned CS is as safe as a CS can be and allows for a better outcome, as I understand it. I would certainly go for this and aim for the safe delivery of your baby. There are also all sorts of possible complications from a vaginal delivery, so don't imagine a CS is worse than it is in that respect. You need to put your baby's safety first.

I had my CS performed by a consulant because of my complicated medical history and had a very good outcome. This might be something worth asking about.

Sorry I don't know the answer to this I just wanted to reply as I had IVF and a Elective CS. I had twins so didn't plan to have anymore children after my CS.

I would suggest that you talk to your IVF consultant or/and do some research into this, however I have never heard it suggested that a CS would impact on the success of IVF.

No just the one. But should I have another DC it will be the same again. Mine was honestly a very good experience.
What I have had is previous abdominal surgery, which creates similar potential problems, and was told by my CS consultant that it was all very neat and tidy Smile. So it's not inevitable that such surgery causes problems with conception.
Hopefully some other posters will be able to give more informed advice about the IVF side.

thankyou LouMacca. I've scheduled a chat with my ivf doctor for next week, so will see what he says. Its great to hear real life, honest stories from women in similar situations too..so thank you for taking the time to post. Congratulations on your twins - that must have been amazing! this pregnancy started off as a twin but sadly we lost one baby.

hi i would like to say ive had 3 c sections, then went on to have a further child having ivf and it worked 1st time with no complications, so having a cs should not give you any problems to have ivf again hope this helps.
