Should I be worried?

Hi :) I'm 36 and conceived naturally when I was 30 and now have a lovely daughter. My husband and I have never used contraception (this is just background info in case relevant) and we've still not become pregnant. I turned 36 in March 2012 and now totally out of the blue I have not had a period since May. I was sent for bloods by my GP (and preg test) who told me last week that my FSH level was 22.5 and that it's high but to go get them done again in 6 months. I explained that is too long to wait...if I'm perimenopausal I want to know asap due to wanting another baby. So from looking on the web I've discovered having FSH levels tested on day 3 of your period is a good indicator of fertility but I have no idea what day mine was tested on as I haven't had a period in 3 months. I know ideally FSH should be below 9 but I'm just wondering if it's normal for it to rise at other times of the cycle. I should mention my mother began her menopause in her late 30s. If anyone knows about this subject, it would be great to hear :)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'd say it does look as if your fertility is diminishing.

Your FSH is high for your age and the fact your mother had her menopause in her 30s is relevant as, usually, we go through menopause at around the same as as our mothers.

You could have the AMH test done - you'd have to pay privately for this - it tests ovarian reserve and is thought to be a more reliable indicator than the FSH test.
