Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2007. I have 2 DD's from a previous relationship.

I have anther partner now, we get married i september! I came off the pill last september and had 1 period i april thanks to nisthrone (SP!) and nothing since and obviosuly ot fallen pregnant although we have been trying.

My appointment is tuesday and im wondering wat will happen. This appointment has been cancelled and re schduled 3 times now due to the consultant changing her clinics. Im hoping they will just give me clomid? My partner has a 12 yr old. Do I have to take it right away? I am thinking its best to start tking end of aug but I dont want them to make me another appointment and keep cancelling because once we are married I want to be pregnant lol!

What do I do? Any advice please!!!

Hi there,

Be prepared for an internal scan at your first appointment. I wasn't warned so it came as a surprise. Make use of the counselling time too. Bring out questions, not matter how silly. Most of all, if they do give you clomid the take it before you go to bed. The effects can be nasty so it's best to sleep them off.

The cons may or may not decide to actually prescribe clomid. It should always be given with a degree of caution to PCOS patients as it can affect hormone levels markedly. Its not suitable for all PCOS patients to take.

PCOS is a PITA of a condition and often requires careful management. I would think that both of you will be tested further before any regimen of treatment is carried out.

Some PCOS sufferers respond well to Metformin - I'm not sure if it's licensed yet for PCOS but some consultants are happy to prescribe it.

One of the best ways of managing PCOS is to maintain a healthy body weight, so it might also be worth discussing what you can do to help relieve symptoms.
