Blood test results & PCOS - am I not ovulating?

Hi everyone

I am hoping someone here can help me understand my blood test results better (just got them by phone, seeing GP next week to discuss but am impatient! Smile)

So, I already had a scan which indicated possible/likely PCOS (I guess that means they saw lots of cysts).

Blood tests results (day 3 and 7dpo) are normal apart from: (1) Renal Profile: Hypothyroid (2) Serum LH - Raised Oestrogen. FSH is normal.

Does anyone know, does that mean I'm not ovulating? I get regular-ish periods (32-40 days) and I get +ve OPK results, usually 14 days before AF - so I had thought I was probably ovulating. but maybe not Sad.

If I'm not ovulating, is the next step likely to be Clomid?

To test ovulation you need to know the progesterone number. From memory over 30 indicates ovulation but different dr's have slightly different view on what is high enough. What was your progesterone number? The lh/fsh numbers are more about ovarian reserve/ testing for pcos.

Ah ok. I don't know that, but will ask. I got told "everything else normal" but no figures.

Thank you!

Hi Minipie,
I am also a PCOS sufferer. I have no clue on the blood results, it was all a bit of a blur. However I can say that the GP might suggest trying you on a course of metformin (a diabetic medicine) before suggesting clomid. The metformin helps your body to do the work itself and support ovulation and pregnancy treating the cause, where the clomid forces you to ovulate treating the symptom only. I am on the first cycle of metformin, and it's tough to get used to if you get the side effects, but hopefully it will be worth it.
