Hello everyone, me and my partner have been trying just over a year for our own child, he has his own son so we know theres no problems there, but i have PCOS, so far we have has no luck what so ever, but i have been ovulating, obviously not regularly but more often than usual and trust me, we are going at it like rabbits!
I was just wondering what we should do next? Every doctor i talk to has no clue when it comes to PCOS what so ever, they just say loose weight, but in all honesty even with the condition thats hard enough and i have lost 5 stone already! I feel im being fobbed off, or they have no idea what the hell they are talking about! I am aware loosing weight helps your chances but im not that big, im a healthy size 16 and with my mother baring hips im not complaining!
So if anyone has some advice that could help that will be fantastic, we get private health care from my partners job in about 2 months which i know will speed things along but im wondering if theres anything i can do until then :) thanks x

I would suggest you go back to the dr and push for a referral...you've been trying for over 12 months now and after that it's usual to begin investigating further (or six months if you're over 35) but you do sometimes need to be quite pushy. It might be worth checking out what your PCT says about this - if you can confirm they support this then that gives you a stronger argument for the GP. Especially since you already have PCOS so you have a clue as to what the problem is. Sorry but I think you do sometimes need to be proactive/pushy with all this.

By the way, congrats on losing five stone - that's amazing!

Good luck.

Good luck with everything. Totally agree with high love Just wanted to also mention you should still get your DH tested. In the 4 years since we had our DS naturally my DH's sperm motility has fallen through the floor and consequently we are currently doing ICSI. So worth checking him out too! Hugs x

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 19/10/2011 22:21

Can I ask how old you are?
I agree you should push to start investigating things. Ime GP's know very little about fertility!
Most stuff will be covered by the NHS but the private healthcare may help with waiting lists etc.
Even though your fella is a Dad they need to check him out, lots of issues can.cause changes to fertility.

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 19/10/2011 22:22

Oops posted too soon....hope that bfp is not far off for you :)

Littlefish · 19/10/2011 22:27

Our Private healthcare would only pay for investigations up to diagnosis. it would not pay for IVF. Please check the terms of yours before you go to your GP. You may find that you are not covered for pre-existing conditions ie. Any that you have already seen your GP about.

Mrsg33k · 20/10/2011 22:07

Im 20, so im not that old, and yes i know i may get a little stick for being so young and trying with my partner, but i assure anyone who does look down on us we have a beautifull 3 bedroom house, my own buisness so we are in the right position and more than ready.
I found out about my PCOS 6 years ago, although i am becoming more regular, like you said Dannygirl it might be an idea to get him checked too... Ill get myself checked first, i have an apointment next week so fingers crossed :)

Hmm have you received a bit of stick already? I think you're ready when you're ready. Sounds like you have your head screwed on.
I asked about your age in relation to the amount of time ttc. You should het yourself checked out after one year ttc under 35 or 6 months if over 35. You're not officially 'subfertile' until 18 months but after a year most docs will start investigating. Glad you managed to get DH appointment. If you've been keeping track, it'd be worth taking a list of your cycles along.

Mrsg33k · 23/10/2011 08:09

No stick yet, but i have off this website, people dont understand age is but a number, and thank you for understanding :)
Yeah i have an apointment tomorrow at lunch time so i hope they will look into it, fingers crossed, i have looked into possible help with my cycle, as its normaly yearly! :) i will give you all regular updates

Let us know how you get on. Be firm until you get what you want and remember whilst well meaning most GPs know very little about ttc

Hello guys, right had doctors on Monday, been so busy with work i have not had time to come on here and update!
She has decided to do another blood test for my PCOS so i need to await a period, very much so a waiting game now...
Shes also going to test to see if i am indeed ovulating, if i am we will give it until just after christmas, if still nothing i will be put onto a course of medication to help me ovulate more often and get my pcos under control and get my OH a sperm count done, so we can be sure in that sense.
Then she said the only other option after that for 6 months, is to have a ovary drill operation.
So as much as the waiting game is driving me a little insane, im trying to keep calm and relaxed, because atleast we now have a battle plan _

Hi,

You sound like you're slightly ahead of me on the same journey. I have a PCOS diagnosis (which is where the health insurance from DH's work stops paying - PCOS is chronic so not covered) and now have to formulate my battleplan.

I suppose it depends on PCT/Health Board, but the order of tests has been different for us. The first thing they did was DH's count/motility, to make sure there was only a problem with me. Can't get a referral without it here. We're now referred to the Infertility Clinic, and while we wait (it may be Some Time) my GP is looking at what to do for the PCOS.

However, all is on hold just now, as we're going trekking in Nepal for a month. Which is infinitely more fun than being prodded by doctors...Smile

Mrsg33k · 30/10/2011 21:24

Im still awaiting my body to have my 'time of the month' if you can call it that, im getting increasingly frusterated with it not happening! Makes me feel like i should have done it earlier!

Mrsg33k · 09/11/2011 16:32

I know its only been about 2 and half weeks, but it feels like its taking months! Still no 'tom' Im getting so frustrated! Does anyone think it would be worth going back to the doctor and seeing if i can have the test again anyway?
