So, anyone end up paying for the Times online, or did you just switch newspapers?

I switched to the NYTimes, which I much prefer, but it does mean I am largely ignorant of current events in the UK. Oh well.

Anyone pay? I am wondering if Murdoch's gamble ended up not paying off at all ...

Switched, was always a bit of an all over browser, but just don't bother with the times at all now.

expatinscotland · 30/06/2010 20:43

I'd not pay. Murdoch doesn't need any more money, the twat.

domesticsluttery · 30/06/2010 20:44

I switched, although I still buy the (paper) Times at weekends if I'm looking online I've defected to the Guardian and the BBC.

snowlady · 30/06/2010 21:01

There is no way I'm paying for online news. I just look at other newspapers online. I sometimes buy the times paper at weekends.

mumonthenet · 30/06/2010 21:06

No way, not paying.

Even if I did subscribe I'd never have time to read all of it so wouldn't get my money's worth.

DinahRod · 30/06/2010 21:10

Used to enjoy the Times but not enough to subscribe I'm afraid, and have defected elsewhere.

Would like to know what online sales are like and whether it's affected 'hard copy' sales at all.

FakePlasticTrees · 30/06/2010 21:14

i've just switched too. Tis a pity, liked the Times but paying for on-line news (that isn't specialist like the FT) seems stupid.

TheCrackFox · 30/06/2010 21:20

I switched to the Independent but sometimes buy the Sunday Times.

EldonAve · 30/06/2010 21:23

no, still buy the paper copy occasionally

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 30/06/2010 21:23

Switched.

stressheaderic · 30/06/2010 21:29

How much were they wanting for a subscription?

I find this incredulous.

I've stopped buying The Times. Now I get it on iPad.

iPad edition for 1 month costs about the same as buying the paper just 1 day.

said · 30/06/2010 21:47

How ironic for Murdoch that some switchers have chosen the Indie after he deliberately umder-priced the Times in the hope that the Indie would fold

EldonAve · 01/07/2010 06:25

it's £1 for 24 hours or £2 for the week I think

anonacfr · 01/07/2010 08:50

I find the whole thing disgraceful.

There is no way in hell I would pay for online news. I just read the Independent on my Ipod these days.

gingercat12 · 01/07/2010 08:52

I am not giving money to Murdoch

TrillianAstra · 01/07/2010 08:55

Still buy the physical paper at the weekend as I always do but now have to look elsewhere when browsing on the internet - before I would always have looked to the Times.

At some stage we are all going to have to start paying for content as these media owners will simply not be able to afford to continue providing it if we don't. The BBC will be the only thing we have left, that and user generated content.

FolornHope · 01/07/2010 09:01

its not paying atm
its just registering
i dont htink id pay

BoysAreLikeDogs · 01/07/2010 09:08

I have got the hump so am not buying the paper at ALL

Have read the times since childhood

PfftTheMagicDragon · 01/07/2010 09:12

But it won't be free forever. It's silly to say you will never pay for news because you will have to pay for it at some point.

If you will be able to read anything for free then it will all be user generated content and you can watch your news via dodgy mobile phone videos.

Saying that, I stopped reading The Times ages ago and I certainly wouldn't pay for it not, on paper or online. I would subscribe to read news online in principle though.

TrillianAstra · 01/07/2010 09:18

I would much rather pay 5p per article (and be allowed to read that article forever) than £1 per day. I know which writers I want to read, and which I don't.

Oooh, FH if that's true I'm off to register for my last few days of free Times

GoalPost · 01/07/2010 09:23

swtiched to reading the other papers online now. Tis annoying though as I did like the time, but they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine now.
