Information here I read about this case at the time and it made me aware of the risk blinds could pose to me very climbing and active toddler. I also spoke to my nursery and although their blind cords were really too high to be a problem they installed hooks to loop them up higher just in case.

There have been cases of children dying after getting rotary washing lines around their necks. You should leave them in the open position or put a cover over them if you need to close them.

Rotary drier - I never thought of that as a risk, but looking at it out of the window now, I can totally see that it is a risk for my 3 year old. Will be doing something about that today - thanks!

I've put off having blinds put up in my DSs bedroom for this reason. Have just got a blackout blind that sticks on with suckers.

Poor wee lass.

I've just cut the cords on my blinds. I've been meaning to do it for ages, but this thread reminded me. Thank you.

bumping. Am about to order cord tidies from Amazon.

How sad.

We recently had some blackout blinds fitted and the man installing them changed the cords for all the other blinds in the house as an extra - they are now child safe ones (they don't loop and the catch will come apart if there's any pressure on them). DH thought I was being ludicrous getting this done, but I am showing him that terrible story in the morning.

Thanks for this reminder.

Their have been tragic cases in the news of children being killed by blind cords for at least the last 10 years. Do parents not realise by now the dangers blinds pose whats wrong with curtains with a good thick lining on to block out the light.

TheOldestCat · 28/06/2010 12:01

Blinds are better than curtains for those of us with asthma, borderslass. Nothing wrong with blinds as long as you take the right precautions.

The blinds in the living room and bedroom have two strings (not loops so I think they are OK the kitchen and bathroom have plastic looped ones, I'll have to fit hooks on the wall to hang them out of harms way when he gets older (can't change em the place is rented).

Awful - been meaning to sort ours out for ages - just ordered some blind cord shorteners from Amazon.
