Although being under house arrest, there is not much to be happy about.

We should all remember Aung San Suu Kyi, an unarmed women who has the might of the Burmese Army, with all their tanks and guns and bombs, quivering in their boots. So much so that even when her house is invaded by a crazy American, she is arrested and charged.

If there is a real angel from heaven, here on earth it is her. She has endured so much but always with dignity and always with her country and father in mind.

Makes Diana look like a chav.

If you wish to hear more about her, this link will take you to the listen again on the BBC

Thanks for posting this. I'm just reading more.

I'm loving the pictures of her in the Guardian today. She is a truly inspiring person

The situation in Burma remains incredibly tragic - can I hijack a little and also ask you to spare a thought for the hundreds of thousands of refugees - Karen, Shan and many more - that live in refugee camps in Thailand and India, and saddest of all, all those who have been internally displaced trying to live in the jungle

The list of amazing, inspiring Burmese women only starts with Aung San Suu Kyi - I've been lucky to work with some, and saddened that nearly 10 years on so little has changed for them

Happy birthday

Bit late. But happy belated birthday.

PMSL @ "makes Diana look like a chav"

Too true.

Hi oricella, thank you for letting us know of further terrible things that are happening in Burma.

I cannot believe so much dross is on the 'news' when things like this are going on all around the world and going unreported in the major news bulletins.

Shame on all of us.

She is a truly inspiring woman. Belated happy birthday. When we lived in Thailand, we employed a woman who was Karan, she was offered and accepted the opportunity to go to the USA to study and live. She'd spent about four years in a camp for displaced people.

Truly courageous, inspiring woman. Shameful that there has been so little international attention.

can't believe another year has gone by since "64 words for aung san suu kyi" and still nothing has changed.

"Shameful that there has been so little international attention" - so true, chocolatey.
