John McDonnell's Thatcher assassination joke

here

Acceptable or not?

I think he has had an easy ride over this. Imagine a right-of-centre politician saying they wish they'd assassinated Harold Wilson or Gordon Brown.

longfingernails, that radio programme was no exception. They were intelligent listeners, even if deluded by that socialist fraud. They will celebrate because they are so vindictive and so lacking in any charity or respect. Like brainwashed Bolsheviks they will do as told by the frauds who constantly betray them and lead them to wars on a pack of lies.

SanctiMoanyArse · 08/06/2010 20:06

McDonnellmay be standing fir election but Ianlt see him geting the leadership; anyone with backing is free to stand.

One prattish comment does not mean every socialist agrees.

I mean enoch Powell made some pretty inflamatory comments, doesn't mean it's OK to assume everyone under the same party banner agreed does it? Politicians are people first and party members second.

claig · 08/06/2010 20:12

Heath chucked Powell out of the party. He wouldn't stand for that. What are Miliband and associates going to do? Nothing. They have no shame and no respect. There are millions of socialist voters and of course, thank God, they are not like hate-filled lefties like McDonnell. It is significant that there are people who actually stand for leadership who have these sick thoughts. This is not the first time he has made the same joke to a room full of fellow socialists. He thinks it's a cracker. The only cracker is that lunatic.

What can tehy do atm?

Thwere is no leader to coordinate

I am not a Lab voter btw but reallyy, so you think all LAbour voters are nasty pieces of work?

longfingernails · 08/06/2010 20:18

Don't forget that the IRA (which the traitor McDonnell supports) actually tried to assassinate Margaret Thatcher. They killed and crippled so many people in Brighton.

McDonnell's sick fantasy came so close to being true. Thank God that it didn't, and that she was able to lead Britain to be Great Britain again.

And before you lefties start ranting, never forget this. She was elected, again and again. If "everyone" hated her then why did she never lose an election? The truth - the truth which you simply can't handle - is that she was immensely popular and successful. The people VOTED for her policies, in great numbers.

if i remember rightly that incident with Everett was deplored by the conservatives at the time - they realised it was v. unwise to have invited him to speak. and yes, he was a 'comic' not a politician.

also, as someone pointed out - the IRA did try to assassinate MT, and JMD is a supporter of theirs. so in actual fact - perhaps not that much of a joke or a whoopsy as a genuine expression of intention? and therefore, deplorable.

longfingernails · 08/06/2010 20:21

Prolesworth If diversity coordinators, UNITE leaders, five-a-day consultants and Britain in Europe quangocrats feel the same way about Cameron in 20 years that the likes of McDonnell do now about Thatcher, then we will know that he has been a huge success.

claig · 08/06/2010 20:24

I said millions of Labour voters are not like that sick individual. There won't be many right-wingers even writing letters of complaint to our esteemed news channels who have brushed over this disgrace. We know there's no point, we know they don't listen to right-wingers. As SolidGoldBrass said
"left-wing politicians are always allowed to get away with harsher jokes than right wing ones. Even a sniff of right-of-centre views will torpedo the average comedian's career."

We know the man is a sick nobody. But it is just sad to see anybody supporting this sick individual.

longfingernails · 08/06/2010 20:28

claig I know you won't believe this, but the person responsible for dealing with editorial complaints at the BBC (Chris Summers) was in fact standing for election as a Labour councillor!

This is what he wrote on his Facebook page

order-order.com/2010/04/19/labour-candidate-is-bbc-bias-complaints-judge/

I hope that the licence fee will be frozen, if not cut, and the leftists at the BBC get their comeuppance.

claig · 08/06/2010 20:35

thanks for that info longfingernails. Amazing, but then we have known about their bias for years. Yes, these people who lock up pensioners for not paying their licence and pay their luvvies £6m a year and pay their newsreaders in the region of £1m, while promoting pro-EU and other leftist propaganda, need to be cut back. Up to now, every Tory government has left them alone, let's hope this one has the courage to do something about them.

edam · 08/06/2010 20:41

smallwhitecat, think we must be at cross purposes - I think the self-righteousness of Tories moaning about one unfunny joke about Thatch, while failing to mention their own very unfunny jokes about Mandela and Michael Foot is bizarre.

EnglandAllenPoe · 08/06/2010 20:47

again, Kenny Everett is and was not a senior conservative, nor were any of those young conservatives (some 20+ years ago i may add) you mention. the were not standing for the leadership - or were they?

enlighten me!

longfingernails · 08/06/2010 20:53

Miliband, Miliband, Abbott and Burnham were on the stage with McDonnell. Harman is acting leader of the Labour party.

Why have none of them condemned John McDonnell? Why has Harman not thrown him out of the Labour party for inciting violence (and probably what is classed as terrorism)?

UnquietDad · 08/06/2010 21:01

purerurple, you have just proved my point, sadly.

I hate Gordon Brown. I truly despise the man. I think he is a snivelling coward, a creep, a bully and a thug. I think he has mortgaged Britain's future. I think he has destroyed our country.

I still don't want him to die, and certainly won't celebrate when he does. How disgusting is the idea of celebrating someone's death?

SolidGoldBrass · 08/06/2010 21:40

Oh I dunno about that. I certainly raised a glass in celebration when the appalling Mother Theresa got hers at last.

LadyBlaBlah · 08/06/2010 21:44

Thatcher inspires such hatred because she genuinely destroyed people's lives with a pig headedness and coldness that was astounding.

Like he says himself, the joke was not really acceptable, but also understandable.

longfingernails · 08/06/2010 21:52

LadyBlaBla Try as you will to propogate this myth that Thatcher was reviled, you simply can't answer the fundamental question.

If she was so utterly hated, how did she get elected again and again and again?

What are the comparable figures for Tony Blair, and Gordon Brown?

Prolesworth, that's not Thatcher's fault, that's just the system we vote under. Name a PM who has been elected with more than 50% of the vote.

OP posts:
LadyBlaBlah · 08/06/2010 22:09

She was reelected, yes.

Does that prove that she did not damage many many people with a callousness that was unnecessary and lacking in any obvious humanity.

She nationalised utilities (that we, the people owned, and our fathers and grand-fathers paid for via taxes) were sold to the rich to make them richer. (rich:poor gap anyone?)

The coal mining industry was virtually destroyed destroying whole towns and villages in the north and in Wales. ( Does that actually mean anything to you?)

Never mind the unions, the council housing sell off, the poll tax, and the biggy of creating a me-me and more me capitalist culture.

But essentially, the hatred she created was so immense because people in the communities and in the social strata in which she attacked so viciously, were made to feel powerless and worthless, and that obviously created hatred

Seeing Ham head crawling up to her today was not the greatest PR move, especially for some of those lefties who may have been swayed to vote ham.
