If the test flights were fine I would fly.

choosyfloosy · 18/04/2010 17:02

Erm, I suppose if the test flights were fine and I had to fly for some reason, I would.

But I did watch the Air Crash Investigation about the BA flight in the 80s whose engines were clogged up by volcanic ash (not that they crashed), so I would prefer to wait a year week

GypsyMoth · 18/04/2010 17:04

the 2 test flights at lower altitudes were reported as being fine,no problems....however,i bet the airlines would still charge the earth!

No. They're trying it out of desperation. It carries an unnecessary risk.

Just because a couple of test flights make it does not mean every flight would make it.

prettybird · 18/04/2010 17:12

Willie Walsh, CEO of BA is flying on the BA test flight.

GypsyMoth · 18/04/2010 17:15

or is it higher altitudes they are testing? i cant remember, but this morning bbc news 24 said 2 flights had been sucessful.

imagine the outrage if they had crashed! these were normal flights over towns/cities

thumbwitch · 18/04/2010 17:15

I wouldn't do it, no.

I agree with Threeblondeboys, it was a bit irresponsible if they were landing/taking off/flying over populated areas.

GypsyMoth · 18/04/2010 17:26

yes,funny that minthumbug!!

orienteerer · 18/04/2010 18:05

I've just seen the BA test flight going overhead.

GypsyMoth · 18/04/2010 18:21

heathrow to cardiff.....sounds like its tough then if it crashes!!

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 18/04/2010 18:37

I think if they put them back on now, while the damn thing's still erupting - then they're putting ££££ above safety.

GypsyMoth · 18/04/2010 18:40

i agree ...if anything happens on the airlines, well, they've been warned. but no,a scientists word isnt good enough.....money and greed....its got very little to do with the plight of stranded passengers....

Fliight · 18/04/2010 18:49

No, but then you'd never get me on a plane anyway. I hate them.

scaryteacher · 18/04/2010 20:19

dh (glider pilot) says he wouldn't fly on a jet at the moment.

Hulababy · 18/04/2010 20:23

Other areas of the world have volcanos erupting regularly and still planes fly. Haven't done much reading on this - just wondering how come this one is more worrying. I know some of the authorities were asking/debating this earlier, and as to why it is total shut down in Europe but pthe rparts of the world have other contigency plans - but not heard anything f what was said after.

frasersmummy · 18/04/2010 20:38

I can see why people are saying the airlines are just putting money above safety now

but I would fly because I dont believe any pilot would put himself, his crew or his passengers in danger.

They all have families to get home to as well.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 18/04/2010 20:44

You're kidding about Willie Walsh going up in a test flight?

So, it isn't visibility, but the ash clogging up the engines?
