Yes it's the DM, yes it's about a large family on benefits, but surely even if only half of it is true it's shocking!

Are they wrong to get what they are entitled to?

42K a year though - I must be going wrong somewhere!!!

I really think they need someone to sit them down and tell them no more money for any children after the ones you have. You cant use having a baby as a means to increase your income which they are clearly doing. I am all for big families, I am currently pregnant with my fourth and time, money and health permitting I doubt she will be our last BUT at some point you have to accept that these are YOUR children and that you need to be able to provide a basic quality of life for them. No comment on the disability allowance as experience with memebrs of my family has shown me thats it is actually quite difficult to get so I dont doubt the boy has a serious disability. It sounds like this family is in a terrible rut of pregnancy and dependance.

Riven I didnt say it was a logical thing to do - just that that is what they appear to think

skihorse · 15/04/2010 14:31

Sooo... if I wanted to have 7 kids I'd need to earh 61k before tax??? Or sit on my arse and start breeding.

Scum.

tethersend · 15/04/2010 14:33

I don't think you can sit on your arse and start 'breeding', skihorse.

Try a different position.

So..... this poor family have been stitched up?

I await their response, their claims that they have been misrepresented and that really they're responsible members of society, holding down jobs and using contraception to plan their family carefully!!!

Or maybe... all publicity is good publicity and they're off celebrating their moment of fame in the Daily Mail before getting off their arses (or staying on their arses or whatever position they fancy) to breed another poor kid!

They are working the system alright. But - how do we address this without penalizing innocent people - especially in the current climate?

Think that could be a whole new thread.

As I said further back I work with 3 families who are similar to this (out of several thousand). I have heard today that the mother in one of these families is possibly pregnant again and cannot care effectively for the ones she has. I could cry.

How do we support these families effectively without penalizing those who have fallen on hard times through poor circumstances/job loss etc.

violethill · 15/04/2010 16:18

I know fio - perhaps some MNers have very unadventurous sex lives

Mind you, having seen the DM photo, it ain't a pretty image I've got in my head now !!!

What, you mean , do they ever get a moment off playing those nintendo's, or the wii, or pc, or watching their £50 a month sky package?

Guess they just have to make the effort to drag themselves away and get breeding!

(Awaits the next instalment:

"Unemployed couple complain that they're just too busy to get jiggy!")

just out of curiosity ,if they were offered say a one off cash payment of say £25,000 do you think they would get sterilised ?

bumpsoon · 16/04/2010 10:21

obviousley with the disclaimer that none of their current benifits would be effected
