Very detailed piece in today's Indy about BPA in baby bottles and why Britain doesn't seem to be doing much about it.

Canada is BPA free and BPA is banned in most plastics. I was horrified when this first came out in the UK, as I was using Avent bottles for feeding DD. Not much I can do about it now, but I wish such issues were not ignored.

DH is an environmental scientist and was mentioning that it is a disgrace that the British government is letting off the manufacturers of baby bottles.

BPA is not safe, by any means.

Oh and what I find even more horrifying is that bottles that are not BPA free have now been moved to developing countries like India. I was shopping there for my sister, and found that in most Mothercare branches, Avent was not BPA free neither were several other brands. No one from the Mothercare concessions there were able to tell me if any bottles were BPA free or not. Now that is a disgrace.

I ended up not letting my sister buy any bottles and sent her a whole bunch from Canada instead.

They need to ban BPA - this is a great article:

Does anyone know if the Boots own brand sippy cup (called "first free flow cup" 4 months+) is BPA free?

I just found a website which might be interesting for you as I swapped my kids to bpa-free bottles as well. They love the bottles which come in quite nice designs (also for adults!)
