This time with no "End of the World" scenarios in the press.

It's all greek to me, but the guardian has a live blog up and running about it

Ponders · 30/03/2010 11:54

I am a lot more worried about it since Brian Cox mentioned that the canteen there has wine at lunchtime

Ponders · 30/03/2010 11:56

oh not with lunch, they don't start on the wine until 3, so that's all right then

MmeLindt · 30/03/2010 11:57

Ponders
All the cantine here have wine for lunch, we are just about in France.

Wonder where Cariboo, Strudel and Nifty are. They are closer to the LHC than I am. Do you think they will have time to warn me if it blows?

Obviously, there is no one on MN today who is interested in Cern.

Brian Cox on TED

Still don't understand exactly why they are doing it, but he is good at explaining it.

SethStarkaddersMum · 30/03/2010 12:15

oh dear, the end of the world stuff is bound to start happening when no-one is expecting it.

Molesworth · 30/03/2010 12:15

I'm interested and managed to follow Brian Cox's massively simplified explanation on Jonathan Ross the other night, but surely they're not going to get paradigm-shifting results from it immediately? Or are they?

RubberDuck · 30/03/2010 12:17

Damnit, I just started a thread elsewhere

MmeLindt · 30/03/2010 12:17

Not expecting any results for a couple of months.

Have a look the Brian Cox speech at TED. Really interesting.

I saw Brian Cox speak at TAMLondon - he was absolutely awesome. "Anyone who thinks the LHC will destroy the world is a Tw*t" Gotta love the guy!

paisleyleaf · 30/03/2010 12:19

I loved that newsnight clip with Brian Cox that was on youtube about it.

ProfYaffle · 30/03/2010 12:24

According to Brian Cox on Twitter, they have seen collisions! Dara O'Briain thinks there will be lots of drunken nerd sex tonight.

RubberDuck · 30/03/2010 12:25

I love this tweet from @colla_voce:

"New world record for @CERN: twelve exclamation marks in one clause. Expected to reach seventeen by the end of the day."

MmeLindt · 30/03/2010 12:26

Off to search for Brian Cox on Twitter.

RubberDuck · 30/03/2010 12:29

I am so very very relieved.

Morloth · 31/03/2010 17:32

Does anyone else think it is very funny, that human technology has moved on from banging rocks together to, well banging rocks together? They are very small rocks and we can make them move/bang very fast, but really this is pretty much the plan isn't it?
