Isn't he supposed to be running the country?

So GB hasn't actually called an election yet, but he's electionerring;

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8590389.stm

and we are paying for it as the tax paying public, if he wants to get the election up and running shouldn't he call an election , if not he should be concentrating on running the country?

It was a speech to labour party members. No big deal, am sure the country is being 'run' too.

Aubergines · 27/03/2010 13:34

Atlantis you make me laugh because you get soooooo cross about every action of the Labour party. Even quite innocuous stuff. Some times I totally agree with you but this particular point is quite near the bottom of my list of "reasons to be cross about the state of the country".

BecauseImWoeufIt · 27/03/2010 13:36

What on earth is your problem, atlantis?

Do you not think every other party/party leader is doing exactly the same?!

atlantis · 27/03/2010 13:42

"Do you not think every other party/party leader is doing exactly the same?! "

But they are not in a position to call an election, in fact they have been calling for an election for the past year and Brown is all like 'nooooo, I need to sort out the country first', so sort it out, you can't have it both ways.

It's as bad as when AD was caught getting whitehall to 'fudge' figures and accumulate data for election purposes and I for one am fed up with it.

Call the bloomin election if you want to campaign.

I think Atlantis' point is that GB has the power to put us all out of our misery and just confirm the election date. The other party leaders don't have that power AND don't cost the taxpayer so much when they travel. I get that but then this is the way it has always been in teh run up to an election. Cameron would not be confirming the election date if he were in Brown's position and nor would Clegg but they would both campaign. That does not make it right but it also weakens it as evidence against Brown himself. Plenty such evidence exists but IMO Atlantis it to angry t sort the wheat from the chaff.

The election WILL be called in the next fortnight.

"The election WILL be called in the next fortnight."

Unless Brown can come up with a state of emergency.

I just find it unbelievable that the man who says ' i'm getting on with running the country, it's what the British people want me to do' is out there electioneering when he's been too scared of the British people to put it to the test.

I want to vote!!

In the words of my grandmother (rest her soul) P**s or get off the pot.

"the power to put us all out of our misery"

we're not all in misery are we?

atlantis · 27/03/2010 14:47

"we're not all in misery are we? "

You may not be but there are more people in misery than not.

If you add together all those who would vote for 'not the labour party' you will find that the majority of the country is in misery.

ShadeofViolet · 27/03/2010 14:54

So will Cameron and his bunch of charmless idiots save us from this 'Misery' then?

Or will they make it much, much worse?

Atlantis - GB only has to sneeze for you to be offended, its like a broken record!

DuelingFanjo · 27/03/2010 14:56

I don't agree there are more people in misery than not. Much of what the Labour government has done has created less misery for more people.

Out of interest what will the other parties offer to us, off the tip of your tongue, which would make people feel less miserable? And can they do it without creating misery for large parts of society?

and being unhappy that you have to pay 40% tax on your income is not misery either.

Nancy66 · 27/03/2010 15:40

Labour have dumbed down education to a ridiculous level.

they've failed to tackle serious crime and anti social behaviour

they haven't kept control on immigration

and they've encouraged, supported and paid for an underclass at the expense of the tax payer. When (some months) the country is shelling out more in benefits than it collects in income tax the system has gone badly wrong.

WebDude · 29/03/2010 01:15

"Out of interest what will the other parties offer to us, off the tip of your tongue, which would make people feel less miserable?"

A change to income tax so that anything under 10,000 would not be touched - that'd make all lower paid people happier, and for those earning plenty, an extra 700 quid a year. (LibDems)

OK, so if your home is under threat of repossession, or you've been made bankrupt, it doesn't sound like it would get "much" better, but it would have a positive effect for the majority of people, assist people who only have part-time work at present, and for some, it may help with unexpected bills (rather than a bit of extra cash to splash on holidays etc).
