I saw this! Mental!

TwinSetAndPearls · 20/07/2005 11:56

I think it is about time she defererred her position!

QueenOfQuotes · 20/07/2005 11:57

Are we now going to say (at already 'toned down' sports days) that they didn't come 'last' they came 8th (out of 8 LOL).

Surely 'deferred' indicates that they will at some point actually pass it?? ooops - perhaps we're not allowed to say 'pass' either - as that indiciates failure................

kids are not stupid they will know that deferred success means fail. Just as everyone knows that the GCSE's that everyone can pass mean bugger all if under a C grade.

We need to stop pampering these kids, they need to know they are good at some things and crap at others. that is the way of the world.

Yes I heard this on GMTV this morning. It's Political Correctness gone mad IMO.

We all fail things at sometime in our lives, surely school should prepare us for this not shield us from it.

GetOrlaithOut · 20/07/2005 12:03

FFS.

snafu · 20/07/2005 12:06

Northerner, you got there before me. I have always wanted a proper reason to use the phrase 'political correctness gone mad' and now I have one.

It is absolutely ridiculous and patronising bollocks.

tarantula · 20/07/2005 12:07

Excellent that means I just deferred from succeeding in French in my Matric ROFL after all NG (no grade less than 10%) isnt that bad a grade is it?

northerner · 20/07/2005 12:09

Yes - I've defferred success with my driving test - 3 times

Nightynight · 20/07/2005 12:12

I think deferred success is OK if you are clear about what it actually means. ie, you can re-take and succeed at a second go.

It is valid alongside failure, not replacing it. Failure can be character building as well.

QueenOfQuotes · 20/07/2005 12:12

I've deferred to get all the housework done that I wanted to do this morning

Will "failing" schools be deemed to be deferring their success in the Ofsted reports?
