Ed Balls cuts school clubs

as part of £500m education cuts

So there it is, in black and white, in an on the record interview. How much will the extra childcare cost us?

It isn't Labour investment versus Tory cuts. It is Labour cuts, Tory cuts, or Lib Dem cuts. At least the Lib Dems and Tories have been honest about cuts from the beginning though.

Why do people trust a word Ed Balls and Labour say?

FioFio it wasn't aimed at you at all sorry if you thought it was. It was aimed at those who seem to think because you claim WTC/CTC you are automatically someone who wishes to claim benefits for the rest of their lives.

I use WTC because my life didn't turn the way I expected and needed some extra help. I was just saying of anyone who says why should we get WTC their opinion may change if they needed the support!

God I think I need cake now too!! Sorry!

"Â?The election choice is: who do you want to be standing up in the House of Commons delivering the pre-budget statement? George Osborne or Alistair Darling?Â?

Atlantis If we get a 'hung' parliament could it be Vince Cable?! Better than Darling or Osbourne!

Fio it isn't a lot at all, I think there should be something in there for disabled kids as there is in HB and CTC- becuase they cost more!

I caring atm while dh combines study and pt work so oiur income is lower, actually it was when he worked in a pretty good job but thats wages round 'ere for you! Worth doing before they up the entry grades and top up fees though; somewhat amusingly on next year's entry Dh wouldn't have the entry grades yet is joint top of class and averaging scores in the ninetiesd (next year they stop taking work experience into account on his course you see and it is a very technical one).

No help for the MA though, its just not out there even when i am scoring highest in group: professionals can get it but not carers (MA is in ASD)

Depends on how you do it- ft (quite out of my range affordability wise) a staggering £9

But you can do in up to three years PT for far less (I think a max of £1500 prer yeear) and I get alummni discount and to pay in installments though i'd never have signed up if Dh had been on the low income at the time, seems a terrible waste to leave after a year though (we'd paid most of it upfront and family helped). We're going to take each bit a week at a time, and only tlak about deferring if absolutely necessary. Last year thankfully (am doing in 3 years) is 'only' £550 so mroe affordable over a year.

recognisable aren't I? But thats OK, I like ebing recognised just didnt want skomeone to cruise by and stop me for random rows for a few weeks IYSWIM. Soewmtimes you have to walk away.

Some palces are doing correspondence for cheaper, Buirmingham is highly regarded but has a waiting list and TBH I couldn't do it from here LOL, can you imagine

Almost everyone there is funded by their work, only 4 not and two of those by their parents.

SingleMum01 · 09/03/2010 18:51

Great, just picked DS up from after school club and there is no holiday club at easter as not enough children to run it. Here I am again looking for another holiday club that I'm happy to send DS to and he is happy at

CaptainNancy · 09/03/2010 21:13

I'm not sure why/how this is news really... all the extended schools cluster co-ordinators in our authority were employed on a 2-year contract specifically because there was no guarantee from central govt of the funding being available after the 2 years of the initiative.

MillyMollyMoo · 09/03/2010 21:59

After school clubs never really took off in our area, it was a childminder or nothing.
But I think the truth is people are loosing jobs left, right and centre and there's a hell of a lot of parents suddenly appearing at the school gates, dad's in particular, so the after school care isn't going to be required.

portofino and runningwithscissors:

At the age of 4 my childrens' afternoon/evening would go something like this...

Home at 4.00, have a wee and a wash, change out of uniform.

4.15 usually sit and chill out, play with their dollies/spiderman and they would think they were helping me make dinner, when they cut up a piece of carrot or something, we would also talk about their day, what they did etc.

5.00 eat dinner

5.15 homework ! (yes really even for 4 year olds)

5.30 read their school reading book and look at other books whilst having a cuddle, talk about the books.

6.00 30 minutes or so of their favourite tv or playing dressing up or hospitals or whatever the game is that day.

6.30 quick tidy up (me) bath time

6.45 out of the bath, dry, clean pj's,a nice story and a cuddle.

7.00 they would be out for the count, fast asleep for 12 hours !

At age 4 mine were really tired after a long day at school,it was a shock to their system after being at home all day then into full time school. I suppose it all depends on the child and also some of my friends children have been at nursery/childminders since they were tiny babies so they are well used to being away from their Mum all day.

giveitago · 10/03/2010 11:07

I think it's news as many mums who have kdis at state nursery are just waiting for their kids to start school so they can better get a job.

I am - have been hanging out till Nov when ds starts school full time so I can start looking. His nursery has no extra sessions available and I find childminders are very expensive.
