Well? Anyone still want to defend them? Because they "prevent terrorism" - yeah, right!

OTOH, what if it did, somehow, stop one terror attack like the one last week? Wouldn't it be worth it to save those lives?

hunkermunker · 14/07/2005 12:29

How would it? All of the bombers last week carried ID anyway.

It doesn't bother me one bit proving that I am as innocent as I say I am. Especially if it makes life more difficult for those who aren't as innocent as I am.

I do object to paying extortionate amounts of money for the cards so would object to them on those grounds alone.

hunkermunker · 14/07/2005 12:33

But it won't make life difficult for them!!!

The suicide bombers last week were "clean skins" - had never been in trouble in the past. So they would have had ID cards and they'd just have been what identified them as "martyrs" after the attacks!

That is in that particular instance though Hunker so no, not all would be prevented but on another occasion it might be, who knows?

OTOH if we already have so many suspected terrorists in the country we can do nothing about, I'm not sure how the ID card would change anything.

SoupDragon · 14/07/2005 12:38

I wasn't talking about the terrorists.

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2005 12:39

GDG, I don't think anyone, govt included, thinks id cards will stop terrorism.

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2005 12:40

And even if we don't have to hand over hard cash for one, id cards WILL cost us ALL money because they will be funded through taxation, that IS our money!
