Dillydally I used to live in Hammersmith - very Irish area - and the IRA bombed us twice. Don't think people like this actually care whether they kill 'their own' as long as they get everyone else too - maybe they think the muslims killed on Thursday weren't 'good muslims', in some sort of twisted logic? Or that they were unavoidable collateral damage, the phrase the US uses for civilian deaths caused by their military?

It is a worrying "wake up" call for us all, not that we weren't aware in the first place but now it has just hit home about how random these attacks can be.

expatinscotland · 13/07/2005 11:17

Rooting out these cells is about the only way to decrease these suicide attacks. Traitors have existed since time immortal. Nothing new in that.

Anyone catch 'Crimewatch' a few months back? Some terrorists freaks tried to get a devout Muslim man to follow along. He said no and whilst he didn't grass them, he kept a low profile. He was shot execution style whilst working out in his local gym a while later. Goes to show you what kind of folks we're dealing with here.

They're hoping to use anti-Islam and racist sentiment to bring young people over to their extremist line of thinking.

It's all the more important for everyone to exercise tolerance and respect for people of all faiths and communities!

I agree EIS, the more young Muslims feel isolated and alienated in British society the easier these cells find it to recruit new members........

expatinscotland · 13/07/2005 11:20

British society IS Muslim . . . and Christian, and Hindu and Sikh, etc.

This is a nation which needs to embrace ALL its members openly - or at least, live and let live. Only then does peace have a chance.

one of the men is meant to be the father of an eight-month old baby. The families of the other young men are devastated. I can't get my head round how these men/boys not only feel no empathy with their victims, but can be so dissociated from their families. Only brainwashed cult victims could despise their parents so much. What do the women think - the mothers, the wives? One of the first named victims is a devout muslim, a woman.

happymerryberries · 13/07/2005 17:16

To be blunt these are mad men who's aim is to destroy our multicultural, open, liberal democracy. Their aim is to impose their distorted, oppessive, bigoted 'version' of Islam. They have been fed their vile world view and the people responsible need to take responsibilty. Islam has its rightful place in our society, it is worthy of respect but not this vile distortion of it. That has no lace in our world and their demands are non-negociable.
