A fashion designer is essentially an artist who has to come up with new work every six months without fail, of around 60 - 100 pieces per collection, ensure the right people get to see the collection and put themselves up for critism that can make or break the sales for the season. They then have to be responsible to their backers etc, meet and greet important press/buyers when required.
Although you may get plenty of support from your staff, as I'm sure he did, the whole company pivots around you and what you can produce and there's rarely any time to kick back and really take time out for yourself.
