A victory for internet bullies? The resignation of Andrea Chapman

This story really saddened me. I cannot believe that a head teacher has been driven to resign over this. When did the fate of a lamb become so important? Why the hate campaigns? I simply do not understand.

story from times here

Does anyone have any insights for me?

I think Peedoff has said it all. And to be fair is likely to have a fuller picture than can be obtained from the press and a mad Facebook campaign, because they slant their "facts" to suit their agenda. I was with some colleagues from Kent LA yesterday and they all agreed that this school has lost a fantastic Head.

ShriekingHarpy, did you read all of PeedOff's post?

She explained that the children knew what was going to happen and actually voted for it. Why would they then be upset about it?

Children growing up in a farming community are going to have a different attitude to your children whom you describe as "townies".

So it is ok to eat animals we have never seen, and for all we know lead terrible, painful existences prior to being slaughtered (i.e battery chickens).
This suffering is fine, as we didn't know the animal or see it.

This attitude is also why child labour and appalling work conditions exist in the third world because we cannot see the people suffering to produce the £5 T-shirt so we buy it, because we didn't ever get made to feel uncomfortable.

Hypocrites.

If you eat animals you chould acknowledge that an animal is a living breathing thing.

What are farmer's children meant to do? Never look at the livestock?

This is very sad - but it is nothing new. My lovely primary school head was hounded out by a clique headed by a very unpleasant parent, over teaching styles or something similar. (Years later, I saw this woman in action, hounding someone else out of their job - she was amazing, she had an entire committee behind her in a few minutes, based on nothing but hot air. That was in pre-internet days.)

I applaud Andrea Chapman's efforts to bring the children up in the real world.
