Shame he had to lose his job over it.

Someone certainly posted that story on MN, though I think it was a friend of the wife?

AMumInScotland · 28/01/2010 16:29

I do wonder how much of a fuss he was making about it, what sort of language etc he was using.... it does sound a bit much to sack someone over a trivial dispute like that, but if he was coming across as a bit of a nutter about it, then I can see why they might have wanted it to stop.

belgo · 28/01/2010 16:46

I would have just paid the fine.

TDWP Posted about it and there is another thread talking about it somewhere.

chocolaterabbit · 28/01/2010 16:51

The devil wears primark asked about it in AIBU as a friend of the family. I think it was agreed that she wbu. Surprised the Council wrote to the BBC if it wasn't mentioned on air. I don't think that is very fair.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/01/2010 13:25

Aye it was my friend - there's a thread in chat about it.

Furious for him really.

Rindercella · 29/01/2010 13:31

I remember the thread. Am pretty sure most posters were in agreement that they should just pay the fine. However, it is pretty blooming outrageous that he should have been sacked because of this, especially if he had not mentioned it on air.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 29/01/2010 13:39

Why would someone be sacked for this?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/01/2010 13:41

He was suspended at first, then told he was sacked. There is a huge petition / campaign against the bbc's decision but doubt he would go back even if they offered.

Lunacy. The poor bloke has 5 kids, a sah wife and a three week old baby.

GypsyMoth · 29/01/2010 13:49

hmmm bassetlaw council....used to live in that area, doesnt surprise me!

upahill · 29/01/2010 13:53

Bloody hell - sacking the man for that !! and they didn't have the balls to get shut of Ross for being offensive to Andrew Sachs. twisted logic there I'm sure.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 29/01/2010 13:53

I think that they should have paid the fine, but the subsequent behaviour by the council is shocking. If it was such a private matter why did the council take action which would ensure it would get into the news?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/01/2010 14:42

Yes they should have done - but there was a previous incident with the same council which made them want to hold out and fight against this iyswim.

mayorquimby · 29/01/2010 15:05

Sounds like a tosser but that's no reason to sack him for a personal dispute he's having with the council.
FWIW the wifedeserved the fine for parking badly.

GhoulsAreLoud · 29/01/2010 21:50

The original thread confused me because I couldn't understand why if the carpark was empty you would choose to park in a spot that wasn't suitable.

Don't think he should have lost his job, but there must be more to it, surely? What exactly did it say on his website?
