news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8469290.stm A happy ending - but probably only because there was a tv crew with a vehicle there. Please count your blessing and give generously to either the DEC or Medicins sans Frontieres.

Thanks for posting that.
It moved me to tears

I wish I could show it to some of the people at church on Sunday who took their donation off the collection plate after the service because the priest had said that the collection would be donated to the Haiti emergency reflief fund
They call themselves christian.....

EccentricaGallumbits · 20/01/2010 08:55

ginger.

notyummy · 20/01/2010 09:10

Ginger - that is unbelievable. What these people are going through is truly appalling. Hundreds of thousands of dead. Thousands of orphans. No infrastructure.

Empathy and an attempt to help others are the better part of what makes us human. Those people in your church should reflect on that.

ginger - I am shocked. What reason could they have for doing that? It is the will of god that they all died?

teenyweenytadpole · 20/01/2010 09:20

Tears here also, that poor baby, but at least it has it's Mum and a loving family around it. The practicalities of everyday life in a situation such as that don't bear thinking about.

Comewhinewithme · 20/01/2010 09:21

Ginger that is disgusting did they say why they were taking their money back what did the priest say?

The DSes school is having a non unifrom day for Haiti on Friday. It is only a small school, so won't be a lot but everything helps.

Ginger that is appalling.

imaginewittynamehere · 20/01/2010 10:17

Moved me to tars too, that tv crew almost certainly saved their lives.

If you haven't yet donated, do it now.

I was shocked too - I've no idea what their reasons were - I'm sure that I can't think of any possible reasons why they would choose not to make a donation....

Purpleglu - good idea about the non-uniform day. I'll speak to our head at the end of school to see if we can do something like that. Ours is a small school too but every penny counts...

Meglet · 20/01/2010 13:01

bloody hell ginger.

It's weird though, maybe I'm wrong but DEC doesn't seem to have raised much money so far. IIRC the Tusnami appeal raised far, far more.

littledawley · 20/01/2010 13:01

Our school is having a NU day too - it's good to give the children some awareness.

That video was really very moving.

edam · 20/01/2010 13:07

awwwww so glad the TV crew were there.

suwoo · 20/01/2010 13:08

Lets hope Nestle doesn't get hold of it eh.

edam · 20/01/2010 13:08

(ds's school is raising money for SOS Children's Villages who were already in Haiti working with orphans.)

gingertoo · 20/01/2010 13:16

That's good, edam.

Donating to organisations that were already working in Haiti is, as far as I know, another good way of getting help through.

Mary's Meals is another charity that was running a children's meal project in Haiti before the disaster...

Peachy · 20/01/2010 14:38

Ginger our socalled faith school has refused the request for a non unioform day for haiti as well,I simply cannot understand it. Weare in an afluent area, sovery fortunate, I am cuddling my 21month oldwho was botn at homein safety with aMW in attendance...... not Christian at all.

Wonderful story, moved me to floods of tears, bless you LO.

Oh, hadn't realised that ginger, the school's Christmas charity was Mary's Meals - we got one backpack filled for nearly every family which was a brilliant response!

gingertoo · 20/01/2010 16:32

That's brilliant edam!

Our school supported the 'backpack project' at christmas too.

They have been running the Mary's Meals project in Haiti for 4 years apparently and were feeding 12,000 children.

I had an email from them this morning. They are supplying food, water and medical supplies to the earthquake victims at present with the eventual aim being to restart the schools / feeding projects...

notyummy · 20/01/2010 17:26

Sounds like a worthwhile cause.

edam · 20/01/2010 17:26

ginger, it might well have been you who pointed me to Mary's Meals - I can never remember which MNer it was but am v. grateful anyway.
