am i alone in being horrified that doncaster council would try to suppress this information to the extent that they would take an injunction out against newsnight (overturned today).

the attackers were subjected to serial violence, domestic violence and exposure to substance misuse that was repeatedly ignored by the agencies involved.

this attack was entirely preventable.

the attackers' had cannabis put in their tea by their mother in order that she had a quiet night.

they were left alone to watch graphic horror films.

they were 'in care' when they attacked the two children, and due to be questioned about another attack by the police.

sophable, is that really the case?

Blimey.

My cousin grew up just up the road from where it happened. he said casual abuse was the norm. So, so sad.

I remember thinking, this is going to be awful when we finally get the full story.
Am not watching newsnight but heard a bit on the radio, awful.
Imagine being the foster parents, how do people do that?

I'm not surprised re. the injuction. It's what bad SS depts do when they want to cover up. And Doncaster is very, very bad indeed. Plenty of evidence for that even before this case. (Not the fault of individual social workers, am sure there are many who are doing their damndest to do a good job, but a department in crisis with incompetent senior management from what I've read.)

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 18/01/2010 22:48

yes I just saw/heard that on the news just now - dreadful isn't it.

Heathcliffscathy · 18/01/2010 22:50

a relative testified that it was the case.

and the report describes consistent violence and abuse present in this family which is why the brothers were taken into care. but then were entirely unsupervised on the day of the attack despite the fact that they were going to be questioned for an attack a couple of days ago that day! they were 'out of control' and no one had done anything about these terribly abused and abusive children for years.

edam newsnight is making that abundantly clear edam. doncaster's leadership: run by the mayor and any unpalatable information sat on.

Oh yes isn't doncaster council BNP led now?

lemonadedrinker · 18/01/2010 22:56

Maybe they are actually trying to stop individual social workers being villified as responsible for the issues these children have, rather than pointing the finger at those who are actually responsible, the parents.

Easier to just bash SS though rather than the horrific parenting going on.

Many SS departments have failings but they are in large part staffed by dedicated hardworking staff who do try to do their best for vulnerable children, more than can be said for some of the so called parents.

Heathcliffscathy · 18/01/2010 22:58

lemonade nothing in the report bashed individual frontline social workers...quite the contrary, it was all about how awful working conditions are for them and what an appallingly high staff turnover there is resulting in loads of agency and temp staff who cannot get a full picture of what is going on.

lemonadedrinker - after your posts on the sterilisation thread I will refuse to engage with you. I'm sure you couldn't give a toss, but just to let you know.

edam · 18/01/2010 23:03

Sophable's right, lemonade - those in power in Doncaster have proven that they don't give a toss about social workers or service users.

edam · 18/01/2010 23:06

"the assault was not only predictable, it was entirely preventable."

"The report praises the exceptional commitment of some professionals, but cites a lack of leadership and effective multi-agency working as contributing to the incident."

lemonadedrinker · 18/01/2010 23:32

I was just reflecting some of the things said on nn by the ex LA guy. It is not unknown for these reports to single out individuals, I am pleased to hear this one doesn't.
