Atlantis, you won't get many anti Gordon replies on here, unfortunately

I don't know about a bad week for Gordon Brown but its been a bad decade for the Labour party. They don't have a chance in hell of winning the next election.

"Atlantis, you won't get many anti Gordon replies on here, unfortunately"

I know I just like to shake the tree to see the leaves rustle.

"I don't know about a bad week for Gordon Brown but its been a bad decade for the Labour party. They don't have a chance in hell of winning the next election. "

Yes, isn't it WONDERFUL.

I can't wait to see them on the opposition benches, minus such shrews as Blears, Harman and Smith and such weasles as Balls, Brown and I know he's not in the commons but Mendlesome Mandleson.

I wonder why his wife doesn't persuade him to quit? Seriously. If he was my husband, I'd be worried sick.

Looking at him, I see a heart attack waiting to happen. The man looks drained, ill and exhausted. It's also become pretty clear that even his own party despise him. I think the only reason the coup was unsuccessful was becuase the party know thay are staring electoral defeat in the face and no-one wants to be saddled with leading New Labour through the inevitable wilderness years.

Yes, I think they will all get great pleasure out of Brown having to fall on his sword when they lose.

If they thought they had a chance of winning they would have tossed him out on his ear because it is pretty clear they could not stomach another five years of Brown as their leader, same as the rest of the country.

""""Gordon, why don't you do the country a great service, retire to the library with a bottle of decent single malt and a revolver. We'll send the crew in to recover your carcass after we have heard the second shot as you will probably miss the target with the first you useless clown.""""

Because it's funny, I am still sniggering, which may shock you.

No matter how much I hate Gordon Brown if he did what this man suggested I would be utter shocked and saddened, because he is after all a human being ( well unless he is as some claim a Jim Hansen muppet ) but it goes to show the level of contempt for the man that the electorate feels.

From the Iron chancellor (again snigger) to the man who bankrupted the country, lord only knows what the conservatives will actually find when they get to look at the books.

Scarletlilybug totally agree. I imagine his wife will be hugely relieved when it is all over. Although I doubt anything can be as bad as the loss of their daughter, they must be really suffering with the level of vitriol they are receiving at the moment. I had high hopes for Brown when he became PM and have been very disappointed with the actuality, but I do think people's comments in many quarters are really despicable. And, as has been said, no-one really wants to unseat him now because leading Labour into this election is a thankless task. In fact, it would make the Labour party all look better at this point if they backed him up and accepted that since they are going to lose, they may as well be dignified about it - but of course they will all be desperate to hang onto their own seats by any means necessary.

atlantis · 10/01/2010 23:37

"they must be really suffering with the level of vitriol they are receiving at the moment."

I don't think it's any worse than any other out going prime minister, at least no ones burning effigies of him in the streets yet as with Maggie Thatcher.

He really does have himself to blame though, it's political Karma after what he did to Blair.

But Maggie went very suddenly - there wasn't this drawn out slow death that Brown is having. John Major did't get this either. I'm sure Blair is watching with interest and a wry smile though.

atlantis · 11/01/2010 00:18

"But Maggie went very suddenly "

Yes and no, she went through the first round of the leadership challenge but then it was made clear to her by her cabinet and friends that she should step down with her head high rather than being thrown out on her ear, (which is still distastful to me even after all these years- like blair she had won the election for the party and was the ousted )no one in the Labour party has the guts to do this.

I hate Blair with a vengence, but I can just imagine him doing a little 'jig' in his living room.

John Major got very similar treatment - if not worse - with Alastair Campbell egging the press on to launch highly personalised attacks. I don't think he ever looked qite as ill as GB does, though.

Still, at least he had the balls to call a leadership election within his party and, later, a general election. And, of courses, he actually won an election - which is more than Brown can say.

I would never vote labour but think Gordon Brown is far better than his enemies..people like Hewitt, Hoon, Charles Clark..would anyone want them as PM? I think not!
If the labour party don't like him they should have the courage to mount a challenge. If not they should not be doing him down. It would be awful if he had a heart attack from the pressure he is under.
