Tesco Christmas card making fun of children with red hair

here

I can't believe they think they should sell something like this. So glad this woman got them taken out of our local tesco - now what about the rest of the chain?

I know two children horribly bullied because of their (beautiful) red hair. It's just the same as any other discrimination - breeds hate and misery

I wouldn't rate Daily Hate Mail readers as examples of good judgement

Georgimama, in the UK today nobody is made to ride at the back of the bus because of race. Because we're more enlightened than we used to be, thank goodness. Attitudes to prejudice have evolved, thankfully, and most reasonable thinking people agree that this evolution in thinking is a good thing.

You are confusing "comparing" with "equating". A red-headed insult is not equivalent to the genocide of the Jews. On that we fervently agree.

Red-heads are not a race, therefore are not subject to racism. On that we agree.

But a bigot is a bigot, regardless of whether their chosen subject of ridicule and scorn is disabled, female, old, Polish, or ginger. And for as long as the consensus of the British nation is that red-heads are a group of pug-ugly mingers to be laughed at and ridiculed, we haven't evolved our attitudes quite enough yet.

Why have I never seen you before on MN verylittlecarrot? You're great!

Fibilou · 15/12/2009 22:17

Hmm, the comments section of the Daily Mail - the last bastion of rational thought

Most of them have been conditioned by Littledick and the other commentators that think the country is overrun with rampaging job-stealing illegals and that wimmin should know their place - between the kitchen sink and the cot.

And yet still more popular than the guardian.

midnightexpress · 15/12/2009 22:22

" But a bigot is a bigot, regardless of whether their chosen subject of ridicule and scorn is disabled, female, old, Polish, or ginger. "

so what about anti smoking bigots then?

Smokers aren't allowed to ride on buses, does that make us bigoted against or persecuted?

atlantis · 15/12/2009 22:24

" And still more crap than the Guardian. "

Is that a bigoted statement or a prejudiced one?

midnightexpress · 15/12/2009 22:25

Now that is just stupid. Redheads/Polish people/black people are not a health hazard to others, as far as I am aware.

And so no, you are not 'bigoted against'.

midnightexpress · 15/12/2009 22:26

I don't think it's either. I just think it's a crap 'newspaper'. I don't think you can be bigoted or prejudiced about a newspaper, can you?

atlantis · 15/12/2009 22:27

" Now that is just stupid. "

Hey there's nothing wrong with a little stupidity every now and again, it lightens the moment... oh but I forgot, guardian readers don't have a sense of humour.

Should I be offended because you called me stupid?

midnightexpress · 15/12/2009 22:27

Your view that Guardian readers should all emigrate, however, is prejudiced, I would suggest.

I am not a Guardian reader, as it happens.

atlantis · 15/12/2009 22:31

"Your view that Guardian readers should all emigrate, however, is prejudiced, I would suggest. "

Only if you were a guardian reader, everyone else would think it a good idea.

midnightexpress · 15/12/2009 22:32

As I say, I'm not, and I don't think so.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 15/12/2009 22:32

I think quite a lot of smokers do feel persecuted. I guess you can't actually accuse redheads of effecting the health of others by the reddness of their heads, so cannot ask them to not use the buses. Or wear hats.

Plenty of people are hearing the message 'you cannot use this bus, it is not for the likes of you'.

Huge amounts of people are not able to use buses in this country. Never rest on your laurels on that one. We have miserable access issues for vast numbers of people.

But I digress.....

atlantis · 15/12/2009 22:33

" As I say, I'm not, and I don't think so."

but i'm guessing you vote labour or at least have that handwringing lefty quality about you.

Oh...that's classy

MissGreatBritain · 15/12/2009 22:38

FFS. I can't believe the fuss about this. All kids get picked on at some time or another - I was called "four eyes" and "speccy" at school because I wore glasses. So what? Another was called "ET" because she had a big head, another was "helmet head" because of her fuzzy hair. None of us have issues about it; you need to learn to be a bit hardened to these things, it's a good life lesson, the fact that people aren't always nice. Being ginger is just another thing that's a bit different and therefore gets the piss taken out of it. This country is seriously losing its sense of humour. Soon we won't be allowed to take the piss any more (influenced from our friends across the Pond I suspect).

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 15/12/2009 22:42

I have a great sense of homour. All my friends tell me so, and I can make my dd laugh any time.

I don't want to see a card saying 'Santa loves kids who wear glases too'. Or one about redheads.

I don't think that is totally out there.

In fact, I actually think the 'for' the card group are a bit more stressed and annoyed. Which is interesting.
