That is just so desperately sad and tragic.

scottishmummy · 08/12/2009 18:07

health care work is physically and mentally gruelling.the poor distraught mw should have received occupational health support and debrief/counselling.so sad for her and her family.what a tragedy

uglymugly · 08/12/2009 19:14

This is truly horrendous. Her father said: ?There is no umbrella of care within the NHS for the people who work within it - the people who do the caring.? I think there should be much more care of staff who are involved in tragic events, especially perinatal deaths, but it seems she didn't get any emotional support at all. Alarm bells should have been ringing very loudly long before her colleagues expressed their concerns.

Kudos to the coroner, though, for his "tiny bit of doubt" that enabled him to record an open verdict; though that will be of small comfort to her family. And also for listening to the mothers who Theresa had cared for.

scottishmummy · 08/12/2009 19:24

staff support varies between nhs trust's - she appears to have received shocking poor support and/or debrief

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2009 19:26

yeah but the same father also had no idea she had even died.
colleagues raised the alarm after not hearing from her?

so very sad, but i can't help wondering if there was something else going on too? i mean, i can't even begin to imagine how she felt, but killing yourself before even talking to work to find out what was happening?

sorry, i am not putting this very well at all and i think am coming across as a bit unsympathetic, i'm not! but i just think it all seems a bit odd.... poor girl

scottishmummy · 08/12/2009 19:29

stress and trauma affects judgement.irrational and emotional thoughts perhaps pushing her over the edge.really sad

Jujubean77 · 08/12/2009 19:32

Good Lord she must have felt desperate. Poor girl.

RIP

madwomanintheattic · 08/12/2009 19:35

urgh.
i always wonder how the trainee midwife at dd2's birth fared, and if she even graduated. it was supposed to be her first delivery and she had been monitoring etc. fortunately the supervisor's double check when the head crown revealed that the head was cool to the touch, so we ended up with crash team and resus etc. trainee ended up being shoved to the back of the room whilst they worked on dd2 to try and get her back.

even the weeks she was in scbu. i was wondering how the midwife was. what an awful first experience, so shocking.

poor girl. defintiely duty of care issue from trust.

FabIsVeryHappy · 08/12/2009 19:38

thisisyesterday - what an unpleasant post.

LaDiDaDi · 08/12/2009 19:46

What a tragic story though, tbh, not one that particularly surprises me.

scottishmummy · 08/12/2009 19:50

sadly vets, and hcp have higher suicide, alcoholism, and stress levels than general public

mollyroger · 08/12/2009 19:52

that is just horrendous.

edam · 08/12/2009 19:56

Oh, poor lass. Tragic that no-one let her know it wasn't her fault and she wasn't going to be struck off.

Poor family of the baby too.

MarioandLuigi · 08/12/2009 19:57

So sad

RIP

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2009 20:00

Fab- why unpleasant???

scottishmummy, yes, you're right of course- it jkust seems like SUCH an extreme reaction to something when she didn't know that she wasn't being blamed for it, iyswim?

so very sad

scottishmummy · 08/12/2009 20:07

i imagine the uncertainy and fear of being struck off affected her judgement.

FabIsVeryHappy · 08/12/2009 20:07

"yeah but the same father also had no idea she had even died"

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2009 20:09

oh that bit. it IS a bit odd tjhough don't you yhink?

i mean, i'd imagine that if i was single my parents would be the first to realise that something was up, esp after something like that happening???

scottishmummy · 08/12/2009 20:09

out of respect maybe not speculate family involvement or actions - this is really tragic and sad

FabIsVeryHappy · 08/12/2009 20:10

No, I don't think it is odd and I think you should leave it now. You have made your point.

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2009 20:12

i should leave it? ffs all i did was respond to your comment, it's not like i'm banging on and on about it. just thought it was a bit weird
