Very odd

Some of them are frighteningly realistic though. It's weird business but there seems to be a lot of skill involved. Some duff ones though obviously

The second and fourth pictures of Helena look like DD used to look when she was tiny. Freaky.

TheCrackFox · 05/12/2009 14:40

They are amazingly realistic apart from the shitting, screaming, waking every 2 hrs.

Scotia · 05/12/2009 16:48

She admitted some people find the dolls 'a bit creepy' but said: "There is a world of difference between something you don't like and something that is offensive to you.

"Some people were fascinated by them.

"I had crowds around me.

"Whether people do or don't like them, some people were coming back three or four times."

It doesn't sound like she was driving trade away really. I'm guessing the other traders didn't much like the competition.

Apologies, most of that was c&p from the article and I made a hash of it - must learn to preview

My comment is the last line.

DollyPS · 05/12/2009 17:25

I dont like them at all and I think they look like dead babies, but thats me and if it takes the fancy of others so be it.

Offensive mmm no I dont think so but the prem ones yes why on earth would a woman want one.

I remember the doc about them and one lass came across as very strange as she took her "baby" out and about. She wanted to perfect one well she got that without the shitting and pissing and the screaming thats for sure.

I think they are creepy tbh

well they're a bit wierd, and I wouldn't buy one - but offensive ermm no can't quite see that myself.

and having had a look on her website - I can't see any that I'd go "OMG that's really offensive" at.

Longtinsellyjosie · 07/12/2009 20:00

I can't see the preemie dolls on the website and agree that that's a bit odd - but am I the only person that finds them rather beautiful? Because babies are beautiful as they really are, wrinkles and all - and that's what these dolls look like.

Perhaps I'm just hopelessly loved up with my own (impossibly beautiful) baby - but I don't find wrinkly babies wierd at all - even in doll form.

bleeee a stall full of dead babies is a bit grim

I don't blame them for getting rid

gorionine · 08/12/2009 10:57

Anyone remembers that programm on TV, (maybe about a year ago) about people who dressed monkeys as if they were human babies and took them everywhere with them? I must say I would rather offer a newborn doll to all of them than seing them abusing these poor monkeys, and it would cost less to feed as well.

similar thing but not the TV programm refered to

lal123 · 08/12/2009 11:06

Think that the women who treat them like real babies are pretty freaky....

Anyway - who could find this offensive???

AvrilH · 08/12/2009 13:44

Think for a minute about who would be buying the preemie ones.

To be honest, I would imagine that the people buying any of these dolls would be doing it for sad reasons.

I also can't see any photos of babies hooked up to medical equipment. I suspect the previous poster found photos of real babies. My tiny DD was regularly described as looking more like a doll than a baby - with her big eyes etc.

dougr · 13/12/2011 19:14

I like hearing everyones input.. I have to say I am a mid 20's Male and i have 4 Reborn Dolls.. yes i may have few Mental issues with bipolar and So forth but that is a diffrent story Most people who have Reborn dolls are Collectors or have grown kids and like to have the baby.

WidowWadman · 14/12/2011 18:34

The Orang doesn't give me the creeps, but then realistic animal replicas don't do that - fake realistic babys however are the source of shudders, which apparently is a normal human response (just google [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley "Uncanny Valley")

WidowWadman · 14/12/2011 18:35

Uncanny Valley I mean, sorry linkage stupidity

Redrubyblues · 14/12/2011 19:01

I remember at school back in the 80's we had a mock up of a nursery with a 'real life' baby doll in a cot. We actually had classes in changing a nappy and childcare.

Obviously expected a lot of teenage pregnancies but there were none that I heard of. Xmas Grin

Came in bloody handy later though!

SolidGoldStockingFilla · 14/12/2011 23:24

I wouldn't call the things offensive but I can;t imagine people wanting to buy them from a stall in an ordinary fruit&veg/knock-off designerwear/three lighters for a pound - type market, maybe that was the problem.
