"honour" killings

Revolting.

I'm not really one for 'police brutality' or 'intimidation' - but I hope these nasty little bastards who are being held for the savage murder of the young mother Geeta Aulakh suffer eternally for what they have done.

One's already been charged. 11 others are due to be charged, including her estranged and previously jealous and violent ex husband.

My heart bleeds for her - she was hiding the abuse from her family because she didn't want to worry them.

Oh the poor woman . Just googled it. Why do you say it's an "honour" killing?

I thought it was because she was looking to get divorced - in a way that she was dishonouring her husband.

I might be wrong there actually. Thinking now, honour killings are more father/brothers/uncles against a daughter I think, when a daughter dishonours her family by trying to marry outside of the religion.

Either way, I was watching this story on the news last night and just felt sick.

She looked a lovely person. Pretty and popular and a good mum. Nobody deserves to die like that.

Do we even know if she was from a culture that believes in this barbaric practice?

Being killed by a jealous ex-husband isn't automatically an "honour" killing is it, or is it only because the victim and family are Asian?

No - I have just read that she was in fact Sikh.

Honour is probably the wrong word. I just thought there was significance to her having been scalped and her right hand removed, and that the first one of the gang to be charged with her murder is related to her, that's all.
