Scientists say that global temperatures are on a path to rise by an average of 6C by the end of the century: www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/nov/17/global-temperature-rise.
And temperature rises of much less than 6C still mean global catastrophe: www.marklynas.org/2009/5/5/climate-change-explained-the-impact-of-temperature-rises
In our children's lifetimes. In our lifetimes, even. Why are we all sticking our collective fingers in our ears and going 'la la la I can't hear you'. What are we going to tell our children when they ask why we couldn't be bothered to do anything while it was still possible to stop this?
Anyone who does care -
- Come to the demos in London and Glasgow on December 5th if you can, to put pressure on governments negotiating a climate treaty in Copenhagen.
- Sign this petition www.foe.co.uk/climatetalks/petition.html
- Write to your MP e-activist.com/ea-campaign/clientcampaign.do?ea.client.id=18&ea.campaign.id=4728
- Nosy around websites like Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace to see what else you can do.
- Try and cut your own carbon footprint - fly less, cut your electricity bills (see Energy Saving Trust website), eat less meat. Etc.
Or just try not to think about it, but then don't say no one told you. And sorry to be intolerant, but if you think human-caused climate change is a myth, please start your own conspiracy theory thread and don't post here.
Rant ends here. Going to look at my baby son fast asleep and hope like hell we manage to stop this happening though it's not looking likely at the moment.
