Shocking, but typical DM the first one, why on earth is her weight relevant to what she did

That is terrible. I'm in tears reading about it.

It seems sad that child could not be adopted my a nice person/ married couple/ gay couple/ whatever the other side of the country. Its not fair when there are so many good people who are desperate for children.

I don't think the child should be cared for by the granparents when they have completely and utterly f*cked up bringing up their own daughter.

The mother should never be allowed to see her daughter again and if she ever gives birth again then the child should be adopted.

redsofas · 10/10/2009 20:27

scum like that should not be allowed to have children but the truth is no one can stop them so poor kids like this are unfortunately stuck with thier crappy shitbag mothers until someone helps them. its so wrong because there are people in this world that would make fantastic parents but they sadly cant have children. i hope her granparents take good care of her

CarGirl · 10/10/2009 20:30

it could well be the paternal grandparents taking care of her couldn't it.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 10/10/2009 20:41

poisontoadstool I know what you mean.
My dd 2.6 is at the side of my fast asleep (poorly) and I just look at her and think How and Why?

BrokenBananaTantrum · 10/10/2009 20:57

This makes me . Seriously angry. WTF is going on in our world.

Awful. Poor child. I'd love to see that young child adopted and given to a proper loving family.

She's forfeited her right to be a mother. And she's not even too ashamed to continue smoking. I mean, if she seriously, seriously felt deeply ashamed then she wouldn't be able to look at another cigarette.

choufleur · 10/10/2009 21:01

It's f*cking unbelievable that she's only got 9months though!!

Someone should stub fags out on her.

PoppyIsApain · 10/10/2009 21:03

That poor lil baby, evil fucker!

glasjam · 10/10/2009 22:50

Haven't clicked the link, I'm sure it's a dreadful read. One thing though, it would have been better to have called this thread something like "Another pathetic sentence for child abuse - warning: upsetting story".

This would mean that people who did not wish to be appalled by something that has already happened, about which they cannot do ANYTHING because it has ALREADY HAPPENED could chose not to seek out such a story. Putting the detail in the thread title has removed that choice IYSWIM?

Washersaurus · 10/10/2009 23:16

So sad, that poor little toddler. Unfortunately, as you wander around Worcester city centre you see quite a few 'mothers' who look just like her, who swear at their little ones and give them a slap etc. I don't understand how people can do it but I think it has a lot to do with family and society - Warndon is not really the nicest part of town...

I agree with glasjam. I will not click on your link and I resent the choice of title of this thread.

mayorquimby · 11/10/2009 17:58

someone will come along soon to tell us that it was her boyfriend who made her do it.

bibbitybobbityCAT · 11/10/2009 18:07

Please FGS have a little sensitivity with your thread title! I have reported this thread.

allok · 11/10/2009 19:16

Yes, well, you don't know her parents did a bad job on her.

I think I'm a good mum. I think that because I'm kind, considerate, my child has great manners, it well fed, exercised, I educate my lo, ensure fun time, rest time, reading time.Prioritise emotional wellbeing. My lo is lovely to other children. No idea how my lo will turn out as a teenager though.

I wish that mum had been punished more but shit she wasn't - might be down to the gps - might not- YOU don't know. We live in the UK and some of our citizens have seriously bad attitudes towards stuff.

I smoke - not infront of my lo - managed not to smoke when pregnant. Smoking is a serious addiction -doesn't stop me being a good mother - I'm sure that this young woman would have found other ways to abuse her little one had she not smoked.Smoking didn't cause this - abusive parenting did.

NyeEve · 11/10/2009 19:17

i dont find the second one shocking rather sadly

TwoIfByScream · 11/10/2009 19:33

FFS I think it reasonable to expect some upsetting titles to be In The News. If you don't like them then stay off topic - surely you can't be that sensitive that you would rather ignore such things?

It is horrendous and I do hope that girl has no more children.

bibbitybobbityCAT · 11/10/2009 19:36

No I disagree with you TwoIfByScream.

I would go further and say I question the motives of people who want to pick over and discuss child abuse cases on Mumsnet.

What exactly does it achieve?

Just a chance for us to all express our horror. There's nothing more to say really is there?

It is gratuitous.

TwoIfByScream · 11/10/2009 19:39

That is true I suppose bibbity, case well put. But again if someone has an upsetting title thread then those who don't like such things could keep away?

DorotheaPlentighoul · 11/10/2009 19:40

It is OK if people want or need to express horror but I hate this thread title too, and the thing is you can't just "stay off topic" when it is in active convos.

I always think, oh no, and then my imagination starts up and the it's like I have to read it because it's probably not as bad as I'm imagining it to be. So I read it. And it is almost always worse.

Haven't clicked on this one though.

bibbitybobbityCAT · 11/10/2009 19:41

I don't wish to block all In The News topics from my active convos. Therefore I have already seen it. And possibly my 8 year old dd who could read it if she happend to look at the screen over my shoulder.

HarrumphingAndBosomAdjusting · 11/10/2009 20:05

I wonder what would possess you to have a child when you have such a lack of any maternal feeling that you could physically torture them?
It's awful, but I don't think the style of reporting is especially helpful. Much was made of her age, as though ALL young mothers are bad parents. And her weight was mentioned, because obviously all overweight people are immoral and lack self control. And she lives in a poor area, and all poor people are the scourge of society.
Can't see what that achieves; it detracts from the fact that a child was abused which is tragic and appalling regardless of the physical charecteristics or economic circumstances of the abuser.
