It seems sad that child could not be adopted my a nice person/ married couple/ gay couple/ whatever the other side of the country. Its not fair when there are so many good people who are desperate for children.

I don't think the child should be cared for by the granparents when they have completely and utterly f*cked up bringing up their own daughter.

The mother should never be allowed to see her daughter again and if she ever gives birth again then the child should be adopted.

Haven't clicked the link, I'm sure it's a dreadful read. One thing though, it would have been better to have called this thread something like "Another pathetic sentence for child abuse - warning: upsetting story".

This would mean that people who did not wish to be appalled by something that has already happened, about which they cannot do ANYTHING because it has ALREADY HAPPENED could chose not to seek out such a story. Putting the detail in the thread title has removed that choice IYSWIM?

I think I'm a good mum. I think that because I'm kind, considerate, my child has great manners, it well fed, exercised, I educate my lo, ensure fun time, rest time, reading time.Prioritise emotional wellbeing. My lo is lovely to other children. No idea how my lo will turn out as a teenager though.

I wish that mum had been punished more but shit she wasn't - might be down to the gps - might not- YOU don't know. We live in the UK and some of our citizens have seriously bad attitudes towards stuff.

I smoke - not infront of my lo - managed not to smoke when pregnant. Smoking is a serious addiction -doesn't stop me being a good mother - I'm sure that this young woman would have found other ways to abuse her little one had she not smoked.Smoking didn't cause this - abusive parenting did.

It is OK if people want or need to express horror but I hate this thread title too, and the thing is you can't just "stay off topic" when it is in active convos.

I always think, oh no, and then my imagination starts up and the it's like I have to read it because it's probably not as bad as I'm imagining it to be. So I read it. And it is almost always worse.

I don't wish to block all In The News topics from my active convos. Therefore I have already seen it. And possibly my 8 year old dd who could read it if she happend to look at the screen over my shoulder.

It's awful, but I don't think the style of reporting is especially helpful. Much was made of her age, as though ALL young mothers are bad parents. And her weight was mentioned, because obviously all overweight people are immoral and lack self control. And she lives in a poor area, and all poor people are the scourge of society.
Can't see what that achieves; it detracts from the fact that a child was abused which is tragic and appalling regardless of the physical charecteristics or economic circumstances of the abuser.
