So where does that leave the swine flu link?

So didn't he have swine flu then? More info needed!

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 14/07/2009 17:39

That is what I mean.

They just said he died of natural causes, nothing else.

He did have swine flu but it wasn't the swine flu that he died of.

LaDiDaDi · 14/07/2009 17:41

Well, to be pedantic with you and the BBC, swine flu is natural causes, but I get that the drift of it is that is death was totally unrelated to having the virus.

MrsMcCluskey · 14/07/2009 17:43

isnt having swine flu a nuatural cause

Northernlurker · 14/07/2009 17:46

The endless reporting of deaths is really annoying me. Every year flu kills lots of people and some of those were perfectly ok till they got the virus. 'Man/Woman/Child dies of flu' is a tragedy not a newsworthy headline! The only thing this media coverage is doing is stirring up anxiety, it serves NO useful purpose at all.

PrefetParfait · 14/07/2009 17:46

Yes if you are talking murder v natural causes.

No if you are talking medically. Swine flu is an infection. Natural causes would be something within the body failing without outside cause (such as infection or injury for example).

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 14/07/2009 17:46

So why is he the first one to be said has died of natural causes whereas everyone else has died from swine flu?

OP posts:
Picante · 14/07/2009 17:49

It wasn't swine flu

2kidzandi · 14/07/2009 17:49

Agree with NorthenLurker.

PrefetParfait · 14/07/2009 17:49

Because I suspect that him hvaing swine flu had no baring on his death. He must have died of something which was going to happen even if he didn't have swine flu IYSWIM.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 14/07/2009 18:40

on itv news now

Pyrocanthus · 14/07/2009 21:03

Picante's link says his death is not suspicious - that just means he wasn't murdered. Cause of death hasn't been released. Any more on the news?

Reallytired · 15/07/2009 12:10

I guess that the poor man died of a heart attack or a stroke. I am sure that having swine flu must have put terrible pressure on his body even if it didn't directly kill him.

Prehaps like many 64 year old men he might have been slightly overweight or had heart disease. Or maybe the stress of being a GP played havoc with his health.

Even with normal deaths there are often several causes. Whatever caused his death our synpathies have to be with his family.

noddyholder · 15/07/2009 12:21

I am sure many gps have/have had the virus and could die of something else but still test positive.Does that make sense?

edam · 16/07/2009 17:42

My grandad died of a heart attack but the post-mortem found heart damage caused by (seasonal) flu. Maybe something similar affected this GP?

Amester · 16/07/2009 19:30

The 6 year old girl also died of natural causes:

A sudden death in an otherwise healthy person will be referred to the coroner and the natural causes bit means natutal causes (disease or illness) versus foul play.

The death cert will probably state cause of death as stroke, heart failure, respiratory failure or whatever with H1N1 infection as secondary.
