I never 'pretend' when posting on serious topics bloss, it's really quite rude to suggest that I do

I maintain that a few hundred years is negligible in terms of the development of a culture and that hardline religious fundamentalism shares features of violence, oppression and corporal/capital punishment across cultural and racial boundaries. Likewise Christianity is certainly no stranger to the oppression of women in terms of dress, rights, behaviour and sexual autonomy.

It is my view that until we begin to address these larger themes and acknowledge the considerable common ground between our cultures, even in their most negative facets, understanding and tolerance - and hence peace and contstructive dialogue - will continue to elude us.

Disagree using reasoned argument, but all means - but to label my views "disingenuous" and a "pretence" is just plain ill-mannered

Have just shown this to my Sudanese DH who is from Khartoum and he says that he is very confused by this story as women can definitely wear trousers in Sudan and there is no problem with that.
