My parents went today. Said it is HUGE with people from all over the country.
VERY moving, silence as the cars pass then a solitary howl from a young woman.

They said they wouldnt be suprised if it becomes a big anti war focus.

DS's Godfather was here yesterday, he is a Major (worked his way up the ranks) and is absolutely amazed by the turn out everytime.

i did mention that it was a daft comment and i apologise if it caused you offence.

myredcardican seem to like popping up to have a go at me though and i don't particularly appreciate that. i started another thread which she has ignored.

anyway this thread isn't the place for it.

myredcardigan · 12/07/2009 14:14

Which thread? I don't stalk you. I posted on this thread well before you and was therefore following the thread.

My comment was simply because quite often on threads you pop on and make a comment relating to class. It just seems to be a pattern; or maybe that's just a pattern on the threads you post where I've already posted. I don't know and don't waste too much time worrying about it. It was just an observation. I wouldn't normally comment but I just felt it highly inappropriate on this particular thread.
This is the end of it as far as I'm concerned. It's not a feud!

Common people, eh?

southeastastra · 12/07/2009 18:58

whatever.

2shoes · 12/07/2009 19:04

in answer to the op
I think it is a lovely show of respect.
hope you are wrong about the anti war bit,

LilyAllensThirdNipple · 12/07/2009 19:04

It could be a respectful anti war thing = a showing of anger?

jcscot · 12/07/2009 19:43

An anti-war protest during at Wootton Basset would serve no conceivable purpose other than to upset the greiving families. It would be disrespectful - a public belittling of values and standards that the dead personnel and those still serving hold dear.

How would it change things? The only way to influence this war is to direct a protest at the people who make the decisions - the politicians. Making a protest to dead soldiers, sailors or airmen and their families is a useless exercise.

I would like to think that the anti-war movement has more sense.

McDreamy · 13/07/2009 20:18

have to agree with jcscott

McReverie · 14/07/2009 17:28

Very moving

Mamazon · 14/07/2009 18:39

i have been in a bit of a daze this last few days and haven't seen the news.

just seen the link from this thread and realised i know one of the men that died.

John Brackpool. He was the brother of someone i know and have only met him a handfull of times but im totally rocked by this news.

any anti war protesters that did/do arrive and try to cause a scene would quite simply, be scum.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 14/07/2009 18:44

Have there been anti war protests?

Am quite anti war, and have been on numerous protests, but would be totally the wrong time/place.

Hope the families are given the respect they deserve.

stramash · 16/07/2009 20:53

I am ambivalent about the war ( or rather our ability to achieve anything) but furious that young men and women are being put in harm's way by a government totally lacking in moral courage. To not equip them properly for what they are doing is a disgrace. I have many medical friends who have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan with the TA. They all say, when asked, that if the country asks young people to put themselves in harm's way, then those young p eople deserve the absolute best trauma care that the country can provide ( and believe me they get it). It's a pity that principle doesn't seem to apply to other things relating to kit etc on the government's part.

We ( dds and I ) have sent care parcels to service personnel through this charity :
www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk/

If you can't make it to WB, perhaps it's one way of showing your support.
