Where did Gordon Brown find £60 billion?

I just can't think of a single entity (company, nation, individual) who has extra cash laying around these days. Is this affordable? It may be a noble cause, but if GB has his "fair share" of £60 to contribute, well, maybe he could make my childcare tax dedutible.

twit.

I can't even begine to imagine why you asked if I had socialist ties. Surely not!

And I shall never tire of GB bashing. I can think of no one more deserving.

Is that a yes then? Or are you just an anachist?

You sound as if GP has done something to you personally.

AtheneNoctua · 28/06/2009 16:57

No. No. And, no, it's not personal. I can't really work out what has lead you to any of your accusations about me.

I think Gordon Brown should be focussing on where to save money not spend it. He may be a nice a guy, personally. But, his political views and actions are terrible.

While the environment may be a noble cause, who can afford to contribute to this fund? If Gordon thinks he has spare money for this, then I think I pay too much tax -- I think a lot of people pay too much tax. If he can't demonstrate a bit more restraint and spend our hard earned tax contributions more wisely... well... then he should call an election.

Athene - you say "And I shall never tire of GB bashing."

That begs the question - why?

Where are you coming from? Context helps.

AtheneNoctua · 28/06/2009 21:51

Because he does so many things that are worthy of complaint. Generally speaking, he is a tax and spend monger and now he is acting like he had nothing to do with it. In one breathe he is criticising the banks for the recession, and in the next he is still spending money he doesn't have. When will he practise what he preaches? (I know, I know never. It was rhetorical.)

Ig I can't have a good political punch up on MN, then where can I?

Okay, so I know what you are against, what you for?

AtheneNoctua · 29/06/2009 09:08

Financial responsibility.

Such as? Anything we can compare GB to?

AtheneNoctua · 29/06/2009 21:27

Do you have a point? If so, I would appreciate if you would come round to it.

I just want you to state what your politics are.

AtheneNoctua · 30/06/2009 10:00

Could you be a tad more specific?

I hope Gordon doesn't go over his credit card limit.

I plan to email him and congratulate him on his generosity. I shall say that if he is willing to put 60bn in then we the taxpayers might be able to spare a few pounds too

AtheneNoctua · 30/06/2009 10:27

To be fair, I believe the total pot is £60bn. He wants to put forward his "fair share". Don't know how much that is. But, I assume it is at least a couple of billion which could be better spent somewhere else... like refunding the income tax on all money spent on childcare which has been spent for the sole purpose of going to work. Just an idea.
