That's not what it says on the BBC

shinyshoes · 22/05/2009 11:14

I know, but Eamon Holmes has just said it on This Morning. I tried to find a link but couldn't then I saw the BBC one.

Why would he say that??

sicko people!!

shinyshoes · 22/05/2009 11:21

Why wasn't ANYONE convicted of murder. I don't understand it

numal · 22/05/2009 11:26

No where near enough punishment for what they did to that little boy. What is wrong with our justice system in this country? If this murder doesn't earn the maximum sentence of life with no parole then what does?
I only hope that they get what they deserve from the other prisoners.
Just unbelievable that they will be out in a few years.

Ninkynork · 22/05/2009 11:33

They couldn't prove who killed him shinyshoes

Ten years is awful. But she has lost all of her children and when she gets out of prison will have nothing, nobody and no cushy life slobbing around whilst pretending to need benefits to provide them with a decent life.

And she has a very distinctive face

shinyshoes · 22/05/2009 11:37

That's another thing Nickynork, why is her identity still a secret.

I think she will get a new life, a new identity WHEN she gets out.
She'll also be young enough to have more children

OP posts:
Ninkynork · 22/05/2009 11:39

She will but not to keep them, surely?

Does anyone know if she'll get a fresh start in that respect?

solidgoldSneezeLikeApig · 22/05/2009 11:39

Isn't there a fair likelihood that the man/men were abusing her, too? Hence what seems like a lenient sentence for a woman who, while she is culpable and involved, was too ground down by them/afraid of them to stand up to them?

Ninkynork · 22/05/2009 11:52

She didn't need to stand up to them though, there were endless opportunities to involve the police and social services, meetings with both agencies where he wasn't present because he wasn't supposed to be there. She could have asked to have been taken to a refuge at any time.

I rather thought that DV would be her defence but it seems that, "she allowed herself to fall in love with the wrong man" FFS.

Oh and having seen him terrify, torture and rape her own children, decide that he was such a catch she must have a child with him too.

I feel desperately sorry for that child if she ever decides to trace her birth parents.

shinyshoes · 22/05/2009 11:55

I don't buy that 'she stood back and did nothing because she was scared' attitude.

I know if it were me I'd run, children in arms and go to the nearest police station/womens refuge/hostel than watch my children being tortured within an inch of their life. She was also involved in the torture, that dosen't smack of 'scared' to me.

It's almost like saying there must have been a reason for it. Why can't people just be evil and rotten to the core?

OP posts:
KingCanuteIAm · 22/05/2009 12:00

It says in both the articles that she will be eligable for parole after 3 years.

tinseltot · 22/05/2009 12:05

What a fucking joke. It is an utter disgrace ands makes me ashamed to be british. The punishment in no way fits the crime. No wonder society is becoing increasingly lawless.

KathyBrown · 22/05/2009 12:05

This is an absolute insult to that poor baby.
And it'll cost us millions protecting the witch when she is released.

OrangeFish · 22/05/2009 12:09

Parole after three years?

FAQinglovely · 22/05/2009 12:14

"I know if it were me I'd run, "

yes that's you. But how many women suffer years of DV and eventually end up dead at the hands of their partner because they are unable to do that running?

However in this case reading the judges comments it would appear that it wasn't the fear that caused this.

KathyBrown · 22/05/2009 12:15

She won't be allowed to keep the children she has but I bet she has more. James Bullgers killers both have family's and they tortured a baby to death with their own hands, some lucky girl is sharing a bed with him tonight The whole system stinks.

FAQinglovely · 22/05/2009 12:16

I'm not sure what relevance Jamie Bulger case has to this????

KathyBrown · 22/05/2009 12:18

The point being that when released they and she will carry on as normal at our the tax payers expense, no other criminal is treated so well.

I said "eligable" didn't I? (the bloke is eligable just 1 year after her btw)

If she is eligable then there is a chance it could happen, all she has to do between now and then is behave well and perform in psych tests. This is a person with proven capability for manipulating the authorities...

Anyway, I don't want to get embroilled in it all, I have deliberately stayed away so far and shouldn't really have said anything, sorry.

FAQinglovely · 22/05/2009 12:26

but the point of prison is the punishment, once the allotted punishment time is over then surely it's not unreasonable to expect them to then become members of society again.

Obviously in this case the length of the sentence is questionable. But then it must also be remembered that the "sentence" doesn't always end when they are released from prison - the sentence can be a life one - just not all of it behind bars.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 22/05/2009 12:31

Point of prison isn't just punishment, there's rehabilitation, acting as a deterrant to others and keeping people away for the public safety. that final bit appears to be overlooked rather too often for my liking.

Given the notoriety of this case I very much doubt this couple will be seeing the outside any time soon.

Overmydeadbody · 22/05/2009 12:47

People like this shouldn't be given prison sentances that end. It should be life. O, if it where up to me, they should judt be shot.
