'Kinell: someone hold my coat. If I have to see Hazel Bleugh's ratty little face trying to pathetically regain the moral highground, I will deck her, I really will...

I have lots of time for the New Labour project, and indeed for Red Gordon. But to see the lot of them fecking slugs crowing on TV about paying the money back is almost more immoral than stealing it from taxpayers in the first place.

Why couldn't she have just gone off quietly and paid it to a charity? Instead she brazenly gives a press conference bleating that 'all she cares about is what people think and what they think about her'.

FFS

Attempting to milk public sympathy for your sudden conversion to morality is a MASSIVE own goal. Sorry Gordon, but you're gonna need to bring back Campbell to add to Mandie to get your PR out of this one.

Massive. Own. Goal. And revolting. IMHO.

Ah. God. And on newsnight now: how the Chingford Skinhead is encouraging people to reject mainstream parties over this fucking fiasco.

Jeez. We might as well just invite in the BNP and revitalise the Ku Klux Klan while we're at it.

What a disaster.

I read just a couple of lines in the Guardian on Sat about two Labour MP's who have come out of this smelling of roses - Ed Milliband and Hillary Ben. I would like to know more about those who have not screwed the arse out of the expenses as they seem to be a significant minority.

GentlyDoesIt · 12/05/2009 23:13

Me too, nigglewiggle. There must be some who just claimed for the bare bones of somewhere to kip, eat, poo and get clean pants closer to work, surely?

Why do I feel like singing a song about misplaced hope? "Somewhere over the rainbow..."

nigglewiggle · 13/05/2009 07:50

Those two were mentioned for claiming the bare minimum. I imagine there are a few from other parties but these two were mentioned at the time of the Labour revelations.

I think it further shames those who are hiding behind the excuses that "it's what everybody does" and "but I wasn't breaking any rules."

The MP's who had the moral fibre not to rip the arse out of it will get my vote!

SoupDragon · 13/05/2009 07:59

I do have a moat, niggle and it needs to be filled by scantily clad male models using buckets of Evian.

consorttovix · 13/05/2009 08:08

It is the scale of it that's staggering isn't it. So few who thought 'oooh hang on, maybe I won't compel the taxpayer to pay for my tampax/moat/distressed pine cladding'

I gather David Davis had us paying for his portico - how did that enhance his parliamentary work may one ask?

Meglet · 13/05/2009 08:08

HB really grates on my nerves. At least she wasn't doing that simpering grin last night when she tried to worm her way out of the mess.

lupusina yes, bring back Campbell, hairdryer treatment for the lot of them . I rather like him .

ssd · 13/05/2009 08:09

couldn't agree more

the sight of them trying to claim back the moral high ground is revolting

will we have benefit cheats on the news getting lots of publicity when they are forced to pay back their benefits and making them look all smug? why not, works for MP's

My dad reckons that actually all they need is a parliamentary hall of residence - own bed-sitting room, shared kitchens. Hell, he says he'd even let them have their own en-suite bathroom! Save the tax-payer a fortune [

LupusinaLlamasuit · 13/05/2009 12:22

Well, hm. Perhaps Cameron does have the upper hand at the moment. But let's face it this is only because a. the Torygraph tipped him off and b. his wife is rich enough for him not to need to dirty his hands with poor people's money. He 'stood firm' entirely for electoral reasons, which is almost (but not quite) as irritating as Blears' stunt.

John Reid used his allowance to pay for slotted spoons, an ironing board and a glittery loo seat

This is my favourite one of the lot lol

notwavingjustironing · 13/05/2009 12:26

What made me laugh with Blears last night was the way she held up her cheque in the manner of Chris Tarrant saying "in my hand I have a cheque made out to the Inland Revenue" - but she was probably secretly thinking "but I don't want to give you that..."

Poledra · 13/05/2009 12:26

BTW, Lupus, that is one fantastic thread title

Frivol · 13/05/2009 12:27

i dont think cameron did claim much though

but he is married to a HOn so he doenst need it

Hazel Blears
Makes my ears
Hurt
Sharp and titchy
Leaves me twitchy.
Please, not Hazel's
Strident, nasal
Blurt.

I read that in the DM my parents newspaper a couple of years ago and it keeps popping into my head and making me snigger at the moment!

Frivol · 13/05/2009 12:28

snort at glittery loo seat

LupusinaLlamasuit · 13/05/2009 12:29

ha ha, [must work] but just had to say that poem is fantastic. Who by? And oh, god, dissing the Labour Party, acknowledging Cameron had the upper hand and now liking something in the Daily Mail: someone slap me quick!

What we need is an election. All this money-waving-I'm-so-sorry-I-was-caught business shows them up as little children playing with lives.
Its about time we had a vote - who we want and whom we don't want.

popmum · 13/05/2009 12:42

Was the chq for the revenue? - because if it was, they will (according to my accountant DH) probably fine her for assumed underpayment or take it as pre payment for next year and offset it against future tax! I doubt very much their systems could cope with someone randomly paying in an undemanded amount.

fridascruffs · 13/05/2009 12:44

I'm with the idea of a dormitory myself. What are the chances of Alan Johnson (who I think also came out well?) or H. Ben or Ed Miliband leading the Labour party do you think? Alan Johnson said he 'didn't have what it takes' and anyone who has that kind of humility will likely be far better at it than the megalomaniacs who think they can do it and then go and invade Iraq, or destroy the world economy, or have their wisteria trimmed at £650 (what's HE going to get up to in power then...) or whatever.
I don't think they should be allowed to buy houses on taxpayer's money at all. We own most of the banks in the country, surely we can stretch to a block of flats or two to put them up in. And then we can install that sneezing Mexican in it which should ensure a quick route to parliamentary renewal

fridascruffs · 13/05/2009 12:45

(Apologies to Mexicans, including my sister-in-law. especially my sister-in-law. She's fierce.)
(And my niece).

notwavingjustironing · 13/05/2009 12:47

I just got fed up with the bleating "but we didn't break the rules", completely failing to see that it was "the rules" that we all have the issue with - well that and the gross arrogance.
