I think it's this orangy one second from left who is the " person of colour John Boehner

charliegal · 10/05/2009 21:01

Oh that is funny. I thought it must have been an orangey guy.

Couldnt believe the 'wassup' either.

Please god he never fucks up like Clinton.

zazizoma · 11/05/2009 13:34

I like to think that my absentee ballot sailing over the Atlantic to my home town election office helped. Not only are he and his wife terribly attractive, but I'm hoping the Obama presidency can continue as a model for rational and empathetic leadership.

elsiepiddock · 11/05/2009 13:39

I have already searched for this and watched it twice, after seeing it on the news last night.

I think I may have a crush!

zazizoma · 11/05/2009 13:44

My favourite line is "seriously consider losing my cool."

NotSoRampantRabbit · 11/05/2009 13:48

Oh he is simply marvellous ain't he?

I liked " on the 73rd day I will rest".

It's all in the delivery and the laconic smile and the graceful beauty and oh my goodness me, he is just incredibly hot!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 11/05/2009 14:01

He's so perfect it makes me a little scared.

NoNameNoOtherAlias · 11/05/2009 14:05

The full 16 minutes on youtube is fabulous.

Another one here for the 'I heart Obama' brigade.

francagoestohollywood · 11/05/2009 14:21

I heart Obama too

totalmisfit · 11/05/2009 14:38

me too! oh he's lovely.

i still can't quite believe the leader of the free world is gorgeous, sane, down to earth, super-intelligent, lovely, kind, rational and funny too!

well we had to catch a break after the last bloke, i suppose

BunnyAndJoon · 11/05/2009 15:05

He is good isn't he

mayorquimby · 11/05/2009 15:54

i really am starting to feel like a lone voice in not being a fan of his.

braveandcrazy · 11/05/2009 17:41

He may not have written the speech but he still had to deliver it with the right amount of humour without sounding pompous and up his own arse a bit, which he manages to do skillfully (I think).

blinks · 11/05/2009 19:20

am not not a fan but waiting for some policies.

at the minute it's as if he got the gig through central casting.

NotmyELFtoday · 11/05/2009 19:41

on the loner clip, who is in the picture of "enemies" he is talking to?

NotmyELFtoday · 11/05/2009 19:42

d'oh, lonGer clip, obv!

spokette · 12/05/2009 09:21

The world needs Obama now. We do not need bully boys who strut around dictating to the world "do as we say, not as we do". We need a leader who will listen, listen and empathise.

Obama has restored the art of diplomacy and debate back to the American presidency and as far as I am concerned, he has fulfilled my expectations 100 fold already.

As for Michelle, she is my Shero!!!

zazizoma · 12/05/2009 11:42

For ELF
"Later, Obama mocked conservative criticism of his decision to negotiate with America's adversaries by showing a picture of him and Captain Hook in the oval office.
"Just because he handed me a copy of 'Peter Pan' doesn't mean I'm gonna read it," Obama deadpanned. "

mayorquimby · 12/05/2009 12:08

restored the art of diplomacy? perpetuated the art of party politics maybe. he has met all of my expectations thus far, although i'd imagine in a different way to you spokette.
he did have some good gags though, fair play for taking the piss out of himself and his reliance on the teleprompter.

spokette · 12/05/2009 14:39

Mayorquimby

I think you will find all politicians rely on the teleprompter. However, very few of them can write an erudite, heartfelt, thought-provoking book, let alone two, like Barack Obama.

The fact that he wrote "Dreams of my Father" whilst still at Harvard and in his early 30s, still astounds me now.

mayorquimby · 12/05/2009 15:32

yes all politicians rely on a teleprompter to some degree, but obama does it to the degree that his nickname is "the great teleprompter" as a play on his billing as a great orator. i didn't say that to run down obama, he obviously recognises his over-reliance on it if he made a joke about it himself in the video linked.

and many people have written heartfelt books, some (like obama) more than one. don't see what relevance it would have to his ability t be an effective politician.

spokette · 12/05/2009 15:43

And I don't see how Obama reliance on the teleprompter affects his ability to be good politician.

Also, I was referring to politicians writing books, note people.

Obama is great orator because it is in his delivery of his speeches that he inspires and moves people. Dubya's oration on the other hand was embarrassing.

spokette · 12/05/2009 15:43

not people

mayorquimby · 12/05/2009 15:50

i never said it effected his ability to be a politician.in fact i complemented him and said fair play to him for making a joke at his own expense.
