Do you live in a marginal constituency?

Only there was a very very scary statistic quoted on Any Questions on Saturday - in the 1992 election, the 11 seats which swung it for the Tories' tiny majority over Labour were decided by a total of 1200 votes.

Sort of makes you feel that the rest of us might as well not have bothered turning out but still, if your vote matters, use it anyway but use it wisely!!!

Labour vulnerable and targets
Tory targets
Lib Dem targets

(We have 4 boring candidates and the Tory always wins so I am seeking a bit of vicarious power )

Naw, Janh, can't vote because I haven't got around to becoming a POM. Do my best to influence DH, and I suppose I'm succeeding because most of his family is die-hard old blue, & he can't stand the Tories. Now that you remind me, I will have a look at IMS website....

throckenholt · 02/05/2005 21:36

yeah - but if the rest of us didn't vote as expected then it would be hanging on those few marginal seats - so all our votes count after a fashion - just maybe not so obviously.

Even those libdems spread all round the country need to vote despite being in strong labour or conservative seats - just to show that there are a lot of people out there not being catered for by the first past the post system - adds pressure to the arguement for proportional representation.

Zebra - there are some liberal lefties on the fringes of DH's family .

throckenholt · 02/05/2005 21:38

by the way I am lib dem target no 31 - always has been conservative I think but have local lib dem councils (or shared).

JanH - CountessDracula = Her with the fangs. But I'll take credit for the 'neck and neck' joke ponygirl

CountessDracula · 02/05/2005 22:45

LOL!

Where are you bubble?

JoolsToo · 02/05/2005 22:46

I do - but I've managed to procure a load of postal votes (downloaded) so I've nowt to worry about.

Gobbledigook · 02/05/2005 22:48

Nope, it's well and truly blue round here. No point voting ..only kidding!

JanH · 02/05/2005 22:48

Hm, that postal vote thing is no joke; DD2 works in a care home in Blackburn and one of the Asian girls there told her that she and her 5 brothers all get a postal vote but that her dad fills them in

The postal vote fiasco is something to do with ticking a box last year saying you want a postal vote "until further notice". Chance are soem peopl eticked this and have forgotten that they did so.

I live next door from (1/2 mile), and expect to move to, the Tory target No 1 seat

JanH · 02/05/2005 23:24

Can you move before Thursday, Tink?

Have already volunteered my services Jan. Got to ring them back tomorrow.

Heathcliffscathy · 03/05/2005 09:14

pmsl at accusations of charles kennedyness!

look. i was a labour supporter. I will not vote for them again whilst tb is pm. tbh, I can't understand anyone that would.

i also think that the libdems are worth a go...and that they are the real threat rather than the tories to labour in this election.

there you go. i stand by what i said. if everyone who thought their vote didn't count voted for the party that they most believe in, our democracy might mean something.

SenoraPostrophe · 03/05/2005 10:00

sophable, did you see my policy debate thread? (in in the news section)

Gobbledigook · 03/05/2005 11:14

Tinker - you're not far from me then!

Gobbledigook · 03/05/2005 11:17

OMG - I tell a lie!! Just scrolled down to see labour targets (not sure how I missed it before, durrr!) and we are 16th on the list!! HELP! Good job I've got 2 votes

Will only use one, honest.

JoolsToo · 03/05/2005 14:28

its between the Tories and the Libs here (thank heaven for small mercies) and I shall be using my downloaded postal votes to good effect

Tinker · 03/05/2005 15:46

The Lib Dems have rejected my offer of help [sob]

morningpaper · 03/05/2005 20:06

Sophable: What makes you a labour supporter if you are unable to vote for them while TB is leader?

How would a Conservative government be better than a Labour government with TB as leader?
