Is it just me, or should any stay-at-home family member (i.e. mothers and fathers) get some financial renumeration for childcare?
Surely if grandparents provide childcare for parents, it is up to the family concerned to decide whether or not they are going to pay for that childcare?
I'm not suggesting that grandparents' contribution to raising children should be belittled, nor their rights to see their grandchildren ignored (e.g. in case of family break up), but to pay grandparents for looking after their own grandchildren is ridiculous - and unfair on families who do not have this option.
The more I think about it, it's another attempt to save money on childcare provision, and a bit of an insult to parents who do choose to stay at home and look after their kids.
