... than ask their own mum for advice.

I heard something on the news this morning that said mums spend an average of 4 hours a day online looking for parenting advice, but I can't find a link.

Can't say I am surprised though!

4 kids in 5 years. wow. did she go insane?

i'm sure my mum now 60 is only just recovering and there was a 13 year gap between my older sister and youngest sister.

I'm totally with you on the selective memory bit...

My mum is adamant that my sister and I NEVER had a tantrum! Surely we would have been very strange children?

totally agree, the rose coloured granny goggles come out and you get irritated. oh yes, I had you sleeping through by 6 weeks, and you only had 10 MINUTES ON EACH BREAST? (wtf?, and you never had THIS much energy (said of my very well behaved but normal 2 year old DS when he runs around a lot). and ooh you want to get him on reins now, otherwise he'll never get used to it (???)

MN is so brilliant because you get a consensus mostly, and people have done it recently, and they know about modern ideas..

my moms advice sucks so there's a damn good reason i'd trust the interweb more

I didn't really mean this thread to be about our mums, I just thought it was amusing that they found out new mums are online so much. Thank goodness for one handed typing while feeding!

And I bet it does have something to do with MN too!

given that most of our mums had babies in the 60s/70s/80s when parenting/feeding advice was based on old wives' tales designed to make adults lives easier.......... it's no wonder we look to the internet for evidence-based advice that is given in the best interests of babies
