Saw this in the Times today here

As someone who fights often with her desire to go back into the Armed Forces, i'm wondering about others thoughts on this subject?

I wouldn't do it under any circumstances to myself or my own child or family. But hey it's legal...

Wow you were in the forces flyingkipper, what did you do? Did you miss it a lot?

neenztwinz · 17/03/2009 14:18

I wouldn't want to go to war with children at home, but then I don't even want to work in an office with children at home.

ForeverOptimistic · 17/03/2009 14:21

I wouldn't do it. No way. I could not imagine leaving my child for 3 months, especially when they are a baby and are unlikely to remember you. It must make for a completely different parent/child relationship.

Yeh i was in the Forces, was a Mine Warfare specialist and yes i miss it badly, but i suppose its a rose tinted glasses view. I want to go back, but can't imagine leaving the DC to even re-do the training let alone possibly being deployed to a warzone for 6 months.

It's hard, when you choose a career you love and work hard at (but possibly chose without thinking about the implications of having DCs) to then have to give it up. But I do think as a mother you have a duty to your kids not to leave them for long periods or put yourself in danger just to do a job (which IMO is not that important, it's just a job).
