Page62 · 11/03/2009 07:59

she denied it three time to the Times yesterday but admitted it by the end of the day.....unbelievable.

Oh dear, she sounds like a bit of a cock, doesn't she?

noddyholder · 11/03/2009 08:01

he is a horror.Talk about betrayal. She is a middle class katie price selling her children down the river and passing it off as some sort of public service.Yuk

noddyholder · 11/03/2009 08:01

she

noddyholder · 11/03/2009 10:21

is the denial thread still going as she has admitted it now

Monkeytrousers1 · 11/03/2009 10:34

Well for all the pious catastrophists, I think MrsBaldwin's post on the other thread gives a decent counter balance

"Here are my predictions for Jake Myerson's future (with apologies for their appalling cynicism, if he himself is reading!)

Spends a bit more time dossing about smoking dope/playing guitar etc (whilst mum and dad earn more money writing about it).

Sees the light one day whilst lolling in dingy bedsit reading philosophy book or similar.

Signs up for degree at ex-poly/new university and gets a First (for added irony, this will be in Psychology).

Then either:
*decides to do a PhD and earns a bit of extra on the side writing articles about how it felt to be the subject of a book by his mum (taking a leaf out of her book, you see), before getting a part-time junior lecturing job and eventually climbing to tenure
or:
*discovers having got his degree he's competing for work with other younger, redbricks and Oxbridges - mum and dad help out by ringing round various contacts fixing up work experience/internships in media/PR or other similar field, one of whom eventually gives him a job.

In both scenarios he ends up fine - and beats the kids who all wanted similar jobs too, to pole position."

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 11/03/2009 10:37

I found her denials hilarious. Pretty shocking she has written about her estrangement from her Father too. She's the Middle Class Jade Goody.

Monkeytrousers1 · 11/03/2009 10:37

FAnd for the attentions of the press - there are many people on MN who do not think Myerson is 'wile', 'a cock', or a bad mother who has irrevocably damaged her kids. We may not have the zeal of her detractors, but that doesn't mean we are a minority.

Wizzska · 11/03/2009 10:47

I haven't read her book, but I have read some of the articles. Monkeytrousers, I think I second your post. Whilst I don't think I'd do what she's done, I can't get that worked up about it.

Wizzska · 11/03/2009 10:48

But I will say her denial of writing that article was daft.

Pawslikepaddington · 11/03/2009 10:50

She's nuts, totally bonkers!

breadandroses · 11/03/2009 12:21

Am I allowed to copy and paste from Guardian talk thread? Coz this just about puts the lid on it:

I have to say that Paxman ripping Myerson to snivelling little pieces on Newsnight was one of the most entertaining things I've seen this year.

I saw the grauniad headline about the husbands story whilst I was having my morning ciggie. To recap, he took a swing at his son, missed, then sat down and blubbed on the sofa.

Let's recap:

Mother: Horifically self obsessed Islingtonite harpy

Father: Whiny, little pussy who can't even box his own sons ears without dissolving into a blubbery mass.

These people are awful. They must be bound in gaffer tape and hurled into the sea.

The son, on the other hand, seems quite the chap. Likes a smoke, ain't afraid of a scrap, hates narcissitic columnist, a hearty well don to him.

nickschick · 11/03/2009 12:24

Has she never heard of dancing naked on the town hall steps for attention???

KingRolo · 11/03/2009 12:59

breadandroses that poster has it nailed.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 11/03/2009 13:02

I wouldn't want it to about my family but you've got to admit that is was a cracking read, loved every minute of it. Just can't believe it's taken this long for it all to come out.

JohnnyTwoHats · 11/03/2009 13:03

Well that was not a shock!

mrsbabookaloo · 11/03/2009 13:04

Where is her admission? In one of today's papers?

squeaver · 11/03/2009 13:09

I've been avoiding most of the pres on this - in denial that I'll ever have a teenager in the house! - but have picked up on what's being going on.

I think Janice Turner nailed her today in The Times. here's the link.

The last paragraph sums it up I think: The Lost Child, putting the drugs issue aside, is an aching, empty-nest memoir: a mother mourning for her uncomplicated little children, now grown, whom she could care for, write about without comeback, love - and control.

nickytwotimes · 11/03/2009 13:09

It's in G2 in the grundian today.

mrsbaldwin · 11/03/2009 13:16

Hehe - what BreadandRoses copied.

I must say, Monkeytrousers, I hated that Living With Teenagers column and only intendingly read it a couple of times. I couldn't understand why they ever allowed all the effing and blinding (to be directed at them, I mean - I guess teenage boys do what they like when they're with their pals), never mind writing about it etc.

Anyway, no doubt I will be posting back here in about 14 years time, asking for advice on how to keep my sweary, dope smoking North London teenage son in line

UnquietDad · 11/03/2009 16:14

Glad to know I wasn't the only one reading her column and saying "get a GRIP, woman!" I mean, teenagers swear, but to let them do at at her and their father and then just storm out was shocking.

duchesse · 11/03/2009 17:14

erm, yes. "Living with hideous maladjusted teenagers over whom I lost control quite some years ago" would seem closer to the mark.

I speak as one who has two teenagers, and I can assure everyone that they never, ever speak to me or their father like that. Sulky at worst.

bettany · 11/03/2009 17:37

I thought Janice Turner's last sentence summed it up well too.
