I am not sure if this has been reported in the UK press, but I just wanted to share something I read in the Spanish news this morning. Pablo Pineda, the first person in Europe (according to the paper, I apologise if this is incorrect) to obtain a teaching degree and have Down's Syndrome, has become a teacher.

He is teaching primary classes about cinema and has started with the film "Yo, tambien" ('Me too' in English). From the article I gather this is a film about Down's Syndrome in some way. I don't personally know it but wonder if it is the one with the lead role being played by a teenager with Down's Syndrome. I read an article about him a while back.

Anyway, it's a great article and a fantastic story. He talks about all the prejudice he's had to overcome to get where he is. And also about how there was no discussion about him having Down's Syndrome before he entered the classroom and that it was not an issue for him or the children he was teaching.

What a great achievement.

What a fantastic story. I'm sure the children will benefit highly from his teaching.

I know, it's great, isn't it? One of the children in the class had Down's Syndrome too. It must have been really inspirational for him and for his parents too.
