apparently

Not just facebook, obv - any internet communication. Like MN!!

So communicating with people isn't the thing that matters, you have to be physically WITH them when you communicate with them.

Are you going to take any notice?

What a knob. I bet he works about 80 hours a week and he's got the cheek to complain about parents that don't eat with their kids. Like he's home at 5 o clock every night, supervising and cooking the wholesome family dinner. Twunt.

Anyway, I don't need a life. I have MN and Facebook - that is my life

there is a marked difference (IME) between interacting online and in person - you may think you know someone through online chat but it is entirely different once you meet them in RL (or is that just me?)

fb and mn are far more ephemeral than RL friendships. But then there is the situation of RL friends also interacting online which I think is a Very Good Thing.

Perhaps a bit OTT.

But Facebook, friends reunited, MSN seem to cause so much unncessary heartache - sometimes it would be better not to know and try to rehash friendships that are past their sell by dates.

Perhaps the answer lies in being selective with your internet communication and not blur the lines between a true friendship and just a cyber hanger-on..

Different skills as well - I do worry that children may lose out on the skills needed for face-to-face interaction (esp as mine are somewhat lacking )

Good point effie - it is only through direct communication that children learn non-verbal communication ...

Imagine if chat was reduced to some dodgy, limited emoticons ...
