Boys' Club changed name

story here

The Broad Plain Boys' Club, LOL.

I thought they'd had to change it to reflect the fact that they allowed slim, attractive young people in too.

Note the missing apostrophe on the original sign.

Instant FGS at "Working with Young People Club"

Will read rest of article now...

But surely 'Working with Young People Group'is exclusive since it leaves out older people and babies. They should set up a creche and a breastfeeding area at once.

It's a bit hard on elephants too. I bet they don't even have big enough doors for them or suitable plains for them to roam in.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 31/01/2009 19:14

I think it's worth it to be able to deal with the missing apostrophe. That's a very valid reason for change.

The spokesperson from the council is talking bolleaux though.

"The criteria is that if you want funding, you have to show that you are meeting the needs of all young people, not a specific group of people"

So, funding for disabled groups will be withdrawn? Work with BME communities ahve to include white middle class kids?

Indeed. We had Boys' Club and Girls' Club for under-12s in the village where I grew up, and they merged into Youth Club for 12 and over. I don't recall any earnestly PC lefty liberal twonks getting hot under their dungarees about it at the tine.

Or at the time, even. We were nowhere near the Tyne. Or any forks.

Remember this anyone ?

UnquietDad · 31/01/2009 23:36

I can't see if that Salford Lads' Club sign has an apostrophe or not.

Mind you, Stephen Patrick Morrissey committed the appalling crime against the English language of signing "eck-setera" on "Sweet and Tender Hooligan", so I've always thought he's not as intelligent and cultured as he likes to make out.

Or even singing. Not signing. I don't think he ever signed, despite the hearing-aid.

Blimey - he really did that? Was he taking the piss?

ladycornyofsilke · 31/01/2009 23:43

Oh singing!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 31/01/2009 23:47

Salford's club is now the Salford Lads' and Girls' Club.

ladycornyofsilke · 31/01/2009 23:48

Are you from Salford Marymotherofcheeses?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 31/01/2009 23:54

I'm not I'm from Manchester but I don't live there any more.

I just heard it last week from someone else.
