only heard about this horrible story today on the radio.couldn't find any articles from reputable papers so am going based on only what i heard on newstalk, an irish radio station for those who don't know.
from what they said basically this man is taking his ex-wife to court for deceiving him into raising a child that was not his own for 17 years. he's now suing her for all child support provided over the years and emotional distress.
the mothers defence is that it was just as much a shock to her as it was to him. seems odd to me, but despite her infidelities she was sure that he was the father.

does anyone know any more about the case, as i said i only heard of it today and want more info before i start climbing aboard my soapbox.

I don't know about the case but i think the child is probably feeling pretty awful to have to see the man he loves as his father turning their relationship into a monetary value.

I honestly can't see what would be achieved by suing someone for this.

yes i thought about that too.it's his daughter and according to the radio he has broken off contact with her as he claims it reminds him of the devestation/betrayal.
i'd agree it doesn't seem the most dignified but he has been robbed of a major life decision and i'd expect i'd want some form of revenge (for want of a better word) against the person who stole a huge part of my life.

as i say this is if the case is as straight forward as it seems on the surface, although these things regularly are.

it's also distressin as i've seen poster on this board in the relationship section advise just such a course of action to others who find themselves married and pregnant by a lover. and it is always done under the guise of "you have to do what's best for your child and surely they're better as part of a loving family" when in reality this is nhow it ends up. the child suffering.the biological dad robbed of a child.the non-bio dad robbed of a huge portion of his life and perhaps the chance to have children of his own. and it all being dragged through the courts.
