here daily mail link

I think she is a brave woman for confessing feelings so 'taboo', yet undoubtedly recognised by many, many other mothers..
HOWEVER, no amount of sould searching 'honesty' makes up for the fact that there is alittle girl who knows that her mother doesn't love her. Not only that has told the world she doesn't love her, and had her photographed into the bargain??
WHY Woman, Why??

Oh god I hate the Daily Mail.

So this had the potential to be quite useful to some people, obviously, to demonstrate that you're not alone or weird if you don't love your kids. But it's the mail, so no helpful links for support or anything.

And WHY OH WHY print a photo of that poor girl I tell you if it were my child I didn't love, I'd not be up for putting their picture in a national fucking newspaper about it.

I was grumpy anyway but that's just infuriated me. Really irresponsible on the part of the paper imo. Poor girl

cory · 22/01/2009 08:30

Shame she didn't listen to the psychologist in the article. "Fake it till you make it"- not exactly what this is woman is doing, is she, spreading the message to the nation?

sandcastles · 22/01/2009 08:46

Petrovia, apparently you email The Daily Mail!

"Do you feel like Shelley? If so, contact [email protected]" But I doubt they would be pointing you in the direction of help!

Start with your HV or GP...it is brave to admit this on an open forum, good luck!

ScottishMummy · 22/01/2009 09:02

maybe instead of pillioring this woman maybe less knee jerk reaction a wee bitty empathy for this horrid situation

imo, unwise to go "public" with daughter.her dd feelings need to be consisdered

Wintersun · 22/01/2009 09:09

Vanessa Feltz on BBC London radio is discussing this on her programme now.

sorrento · 22/01/2009 09:14

I'm sorry she needs a damn good slap, she should be ashamed of herself for going to the Mail to share this lovely piece of information, where's the child's family they should be stepping in to help the poor girl.

Are we all going to email the DM and tell them what we think of them publishing the photo ?

sorrento · 22/01/2009 09:16

I don't have any empathy Petrovia, It's not a "normal" situation that many people will find themselves in is ?

IdiotMother · 22/01/2009 09:29

So just to join the freaks - I didn't love my 3rd DC untill she was 10 months old. Yes, I cared for her, breast fed her for 9 months, did all the things a mum is supposed to do, but the love just wasn't there like it was with my elder DC's.

Then one day I looked at her sitting in her high chair and knew I loved her. I wen't rushing outside crying, to tell DH.

Now I know I love all my DC's equally, and I really hope this woman can get some sort of help to love her DD.

Why she is letting her DD know she doesn't love her is beyond me though. Surely as a mother she has a duty to keep up a life long facade.

smartiejake · 22/01/2009 09:34

Can you imagine the taunts in the playground for that poor child?

Ok so maybe she has grown up thinking things don't feel right and that her mum acts differently with her younger sibling buit to have it confirmed for the world to see in the tabloids is heartbreaking beyond belief.

Yes- I feel so sorry for the mother she obviously has a serious problem but for the sake of your child how on earth could she have allowed the story to have been published with real names and a photo of the child. I agree with idiotmother (I'm sure you aren't!) a life long faceade and getting some help is the only way to live in these circumstances.

Selfish, selfish misguided cow.

sorrento · 22/01/2009 09:39

Idiotmother I'm sure lots of people have been in your situation, I didn't love DH til I'd been with him a year so why I would instantly love a child who appeared in our lives i've never quite understood, but 11 years is bizzar, I'd love a rabbit if i'd had it that long.

siriusmewsaysochayethenoo · 22/01/2009 09:39

I know how you feel Petrovia. I feel the same as you. Has really bad PND with my first DS and never really bonded. After DS2 I knew the way I felt was abnormal and wondered if the PND was still there and sort of overlapping iyswim. But then I never really knew what to do about it.

weblette · 22/01/2009 09:41

Wonder how much she got paid for it?

Yes it's a subject that needs to be discussed but I'm completely with everyone above who thinks a degree of anonymity would have been far healthier for the child.

And the style of the article makes me vomit too...

TotalChaos · 22/01/2009 09:42

I don't think difficulties bonding with a child are particularly rare. I think what is unusual is that this lady in the Mail comes over as inconsiderate and unaffectionate towards her DD.

unavailable · 22/01/2009 09:50

Sorrento - I did (try to) post a comment with the DM when I read the article this morning. The jist of it was that I felt their publishing a photo of the child concerned was irresponsible and exploitative.

I have looked at the comments - many of them condemn the mother, but none the Daily Mail itself.

I wonder how many others posted in the same vein as I did, but have not had their comment posted.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 22/01/2009 09:58

I do feel sorry for her, but sorrier for her poor daughter

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 22/01/2009 09:58

is sorrier even a word?!

oh, you know what i mean, more sorry

TotalChaos · 22/01/2009 10:00

Oh and I definitely feel the article would have been much more useful if they had put more information in about what can be done to help this situation.

purpleduck · 22/01/2009 10:25

Did anyone read the comment on the bottom...the one with the woman who had been fostered then brought back to her parents...?

She said something like " I was reunited with my parents at 3 months, at which time my mother was pg with my sibling who is 13 months younger than I am"

How does THAT work?

Awful article BTW...fine, some people probably are affected by the topic, but the woman's innocent child should have been kept out.

Shame on them all.

Wintersun · 22/01/2009 10:55

I suppose the mother could have just got pregnant and the baby was late? Could that work?

psychomum5 · 22/01/2009 11:10

what a dreafully sad article..........for the little girl.

I am sure that there are women out there who feel like this, but to speak out about it like this, in a national newspaper, and with your child in the photo too.
