I LOVED the comment from Jay Zee. That Rosa Parks sat so that Martin Luther King could walk so that Barack Obama could run for President.

I thought he looked like Mel B's husband actually! He had a big gob!

Well, I cried. I just love the man. Great speech.

And for those with a glass already in their hand , a toast please for my late father, whose mother was a formidable American and who would have been beside himself with pride and pleasure.

edam · 20/01/2009 18:07

Not ashamed to admit I welled up. Blimey, if he means even 1/10th of it, the world has just changed for the better... and what a FAB speech. Fantastic to have a leader with a real grasp of rhetoric.

scardypants · 20/01/2009 18:20

I didn't expect to cry but....

Great speech, great man.

God bless him and us, all of us.

didoreth · 20/01/2009 18:30

I love that man.
Have never felt so hopeful listening to a politician before.

moondog · 20/01/2009 19:36

What an inspiring couple of hours.
I forced encouraged my children to sit with me.
Loved the sign in the crowd
'We have overcome'

TwoIfBySea · 20/01/2009 20:54

That was some speech. Totally inspiring.

Made dts sit through it although they may not have gotten much from it, other than that there were "loads" of people there, it is something they will remember I hope.

I went to the same university as he did, in LA. Have ordered his book from the library becasue I want to read what he's got to say about that period. I listened to his speech on the car radio. I thought it was a great speech, and yes it made me hopeful, which is odd, because he basically said that things are going to be rough as hell, but he seemed to conjure a bit of Dunkirk spirit. Of course he will disappoint some people, but even if he fails, at least they elected someone bright, and ambitious in a good way, instead of some W or Sarah Palin type, or a Bill Clinton, bless his well-oiled zipper. He's a reason to be happy. Or at least less pessimistic than we might otherwise be.
